Default Overprints?

Posted By: Shane Killian

Sorry if my question is trivial, but i'm pretty new to collecting and still learning the ropes.

If i have a few T206 overprints, both ghost images of players and overprints of the backs does this negatively affect the value of the card?

Yes, they greatly devalue them. Those nasty looking ghost images. Tell ya what...I'll take 'me off your hands for a regular card price. Actually, depending on what they look like they can increase their value dramatically. Again, depends on each card, from what I've seen....

The best idea for these types of questions is always to post scans. Result will be that several board members will email you with low offers. Best advice would be to put them on ebay after getting our opinions.

When I was a new poster you would not believe the types of offers I got on cards - several very well-known board members offered me under $500 for a BL 460 card that graded SGC EX+. And these are all guys who are now my FRIENDS

T229 Pet Cigarettes Jack Johnson. Rarer than hens teeth. And a few baseball strips of particular ugliness (ain't they things of beauty?)

Was wondering, is this considered an overprint or just off-registration printing. Does this have an impact on the card's value?

Thanks.

these are the cards that you dreaded getting as a kid in the '60s - garbage you immediately threw away.

But the ones from 1900-20 are considered "rare" printing errors. Personally, I see value in the ones that shed some light on the printing process - specifically, the cards that were used to "test" the printing process. But oustide of Charlie's card with the Weimer "ghost" on the back, most of the "ghost" cards you see are just bad registration.

I know a lot of collectors who are turning their attention to screwed up printing cards. It is another way to put together a unique collection of vintage cards with the added bonus that many still treat these cards as trash. I'm always scouring commons bins for them.

That Ellis card ranks #1 in my book as the most unregistered card ever issued. I've seen them horribly registered all over the place but the Najdas appear to be the worst.
