Default Introducing The Monster Podcast

I'm really excited to announce that Justin Goodman (silverskulls) and I have started a podcast about the T206 set.

Our first episode is a brief introduction to us, the podcast, and the set. It can be accessed here: https://themonsterpodcast.com/

Our second episode is an interview with the curator of the Library of Congress's baseball card collection and will be live in a few days.

Please give it a listen, and feel free to share feedback, ideas for future episodes, or offers to join us for an interview. We're super excited to put out what we hope is interesting and informative content on the set we all love.

Not yet. It's just available on sound cloud and through our website. But that's something we're working on and hope to make available soon.

Default Episode 2: Interview w/ Library of Congress curator

Hi everyone,

Since people seem excited for the podcast (thank you!), we went ahead and posted Episode 2:

https://soundcloud.com/the-monster-podcast-452884140

In the episode, Jay and I visited the Library of Congress for a conversation with Sara Duke, curator of Popular and Applied Graphic Art in the Prints and Photographs Division.

Among other memorabilia, Sara is responsible for the LOC's collection of baseball cards, including a near complete T206 set. We discuss the history of the collection, Sara's role at the LOC, and what earns T206s a spot in American history.

We also discuss the LOC's current exhibit, Baseball Americana, that is on display through Summer 2019.

Read more at: https://www.loc.gov/exhibitions/base...is-exhibition/

Please follow us on Facebook at Facebook.com/TheMonsterPodcast and visit our site at www.TheMonsterPodcast.com

Thanks!

Here is the sheet of Old Judges. The government got these (there are more) when Old Judge petitioned for trademark protection on the pictures on the cards in 1887. They've sat in the collection for over 100 years. The curator was shocked when we shared how valuable they are.

Neither of us had ever seen Old Judges with this kind of clarity and register.

Do you know the age of Mr Edwards when he passed? Did he collect as a child or was it a collection he amassed as an adult? What years did he collect?

He died in 1943, and was a young man. His collection wound up with poet Carl Sandburg who donated the collection to the Library of Congress in 1954.

Hi folks!

Episode 3 of the Monster Podcast is live!

Check out our conversation about T206s with Peter Devereaux, author of the new book, "GAME FACES: Early Baseball Cards from the Library of Congress."

https://soundcloud.com/the-monster-p...-of-game-faces

The book includes 300 beautiful hi-res photos of T206s and other pre-war tobacco cards, and fascinating stories about the cards and the time in which they were produced.

Great listen as always. The tidbit about players getting royalties from Lawrence Ritter for their contributions was very interesting. I have some letters written by Rube Marquand where he specifically suggests that the person should check out “The Glory of Their Times”. It all makes sense now

Glad you enjoyed it! Would love to see those letters! I feel like Paul might want to get his hands on those, too!

I am not a T206 collector. I've owned a few over the years, but have no desire to go down that path. That being said, I've listened to all of your episodes and found it VERY enjoyable. Keep 'em coming!
