Something tells me there isn't as much scrutiny applied to a 4SC submission as there would be to someone who doesn't send them a billion cards a year. They probably just go straight from the box to the slabbing process.

If SCD's reported production numbers are correct, PSA has graded more 1985 Chong Modesto Mark McGwire cards than were actually produced in the first place. Like Beckett, they'll grade anything you throw at them.

Not to get too far off track of the original post, but the Chong cards were easy to duplicate just like the Star basketball cards. For a few years the McGwire card was one of the hottest on the market and I'm fairly certain there are quite a few fakes in PSA and BGS slabs.

So when PSA re-grades a card, they don't remove the original entry from the registry? Oh, I guess if it was cracked, they would never know....wow, now even the registry is hugely less useful.

Only if you tell them a card has been previously graded, which is counterproductive when you're looking for a sub bump

psa said it was a mechanical error and that the responsibility is on the buyer to double check all labels for accuracy. I asked if all 27 were mechanical errors and they couldn't give me an answer.
