Default September pickups

I recently purchased this nice original photo of Lefty Grove from perezfan Mark Steinberg on the BST, pairing it with my vintage Lefty Grove signed album page that I have owned for a while. Both photo and signature are circa 1931.

I'm really pleased with the end result.

Looks fantastic Scott! Didn't take long getting that baby framed. That was a real nice photo and the perfect size for the autograph .

Default ennants

I picked up these two pennants today. I am not a "pennant guy" but love the graphics on the A's piece and I have never seen the Dodgers pennant before either. I have talked to a few people and no one has ever seen it either.

A member pointed this out to me a while back on ebay for an outrageous price. (sorry, can't remember who, but I appreciated it.) So last month I got it for a much better price at auction, it just arrived today. Early Wynn's 300th win dugout lineup card, saved by Birdie Tebbets. Looks cool with the ball from Wynn's collection where he had the entire lineup sign. Too bad his actual 300th game used ball went far above my budget.

Got these two snapshots from Huggins & Scott last month. Taken July 4th, 1906, Athletics vs. Highlanders at Columbia Park. It was a doubleheader with Rube Waddell beating Jack Chesbro in game 1 and Chief Bender losing to Al Orth (aka The Curveless Wonder) in game 2. Even in the 3x3 snapshots I was fairly sure it was Waddell at the plate---probably talking it over with catcher Schrecengost just before the start of the game---but the scan at high res makes that familiar posture fairly unmistakable. Rube!

The Highlanders player with the flag (at left in the high res crop) is a nice detail as well...

Congratulations Ken - what a great acquisition for an Indians fan!

Much preferable to the line-up card from one of his early wins. couldn't stop myself.

Default 1860s baseball cdv

This is the best game action cdv I have ever seen. It includes an umpire and scorekeeper and is a close up view. It is interesting that all players except the batter wear long pants. Maybe his pants are tied or tucked in?

That's by leaps and bounds the best image of it's type I've seen over my 30 years of enjoying this material. Really terrific, Gary.

Thanks to a board member for a scored program from Bob Feller's 18-strikeout performance against the Tigers on Oct. 2, 1938. The person who scored it did a nice job (I didn't want to flatten the program to scan the inside pages, hence a scan of only the cover).

I already had a ticket stub from the game, plus the 1954 Topps Scoop card that Feller once owned that highlights the day, so this makes a nice trifecta.

This is my first and only football piece. The football is an actual football that a store would have sold as an example. Thanks to a fellow board member for this pick-up.

That is an amazing advertising display Bob. Congrats! How on earth does the football mount to the board? Maybe a metal bracket for the purpose of holding the ball in place?

The back piece sits up higher than the front piece and the football just sits there, I can easily pick it up any time, thanks

Default Bob Feller 2nd no-hitter complimentary piece

I recently picked up this original photo of Bob Feller and catcher Bob Hayes in the locker room after Feller's 2nd career no-hitter on April 30, 1946 at NYY.
Frank Hayes provided the only offense in the 1-0 no-hitter, by hitting a dramatic HR late in the game in support of Feller.

Rapid Robert always credited his 2nd no-hitter as being his best due to the strength of the Yankees lineup.

In 2014 I picked up a game used ball from Feller's 2nd no-hitter and posted pictures of it. The ball was signed and inscribed by both Feller and catcher Frank Hayes. Combine these two items and my no-hitter ticket stub from this game and it makes for a pretty neat trio of baseball history...

Thanks to Bill from First Year Cards, I was able to add this early Ted Williams team photo this week! Couldn't be any happier!

Finally got around to framing this: Conlon photo of Swanson with Conlon signature on back in red. This was easier than I thought it would be - got a ready-made 2-way frame at Michaels, along with a ready -made acid-free mat (less than $10 total). Just sandwiched the print in-between the mat and the back piece of glass - no tape required.

Real excited to add the first pennant to my collection in quite a while. The game was played at Ford's Rotunda Field, locally in the Detroit area ,in front of about 6000 fans . The Mickey Cochrane led Great Lakes team fielded eight former major league ball players including Johnny Mize, ex-Tiger Barney McCoskey and Gene Woodling.
