Default Quick question regarding Mantle autographed 8x10

I bought this Autographed Mantle at an estate sale. As you can tell it is personalized to "Don". What kind of change to the value will this cause? I appreciate your help in advance. Kevin

Significant impact since he's readily available without an inscription. Unless you can find a Don to buy it!

Sometimes Mantles with first name only inscriptions can go for a premium over non-personalized actually. Especially if it is a common first name a number of guys may be going after.

As you correctly stated, unpersonalized examples are readily available. But if you want one personalized to your name, you might have to go after it hard.

Thanks for replies. I guess my best bet is to find that Don that needs a Mantle auto!

Actually, your best bet is to find TWO Dons that need a Mantle auto.

You could probably remove To Don pretty easily with the right kind of dry eraser.

tried that before & goof off and alcohol and....only smeared the personalization.

doesn't mean I wouldn't try again I could pick up the picture for $60-80. That's a nice sought after Rookie pose!!!

It also depends on just how old the picture is. A white dry eraser can be used but I would try the tip of the t first to make sure it doesnt ruin the photograph. Dont use anything wet.

I am pretty sure the picture itself is quite old. The gentleman that got the autograph went to Spring Training in the 60s and early 70s and all of the photos that I bought are from that era. I also got a Banks inscribed with "Mr. Cub", a Carlton STL and Reggie with the A's.

I would not try to erase the inscription. Just not something I would gamble on.

I would not necessarily consider removing the personalization. As it is in ballpoint on photography paper there will still be some compression of the paper below where the writing was. This would still be visible even after the ink was removed.

Another point to consider is that it is additional handwriting by Mantle. In book collecting the additional inscription actually adds value to the item for that reason. Especially well known books by great authors. The same is true with handwritten letters versus a clipped signature. Unless of course you are the a-holes at TOPPS and you desecrate items to create 'collectible' cards that morons overpay for.
