Default What year was 1934 Goudey released?

Please see picture below of a 1934 Goudey Hank Greenberg I picked up at the National with a back stamp reading Jul 1 1933. Would love to know if anyone has any info as to when the set was actually distributed.

Well, seeing as the card mentions his 1933 game totals and season-ending batting average, it's pretty safe to say that stamp of July 1933 is inaccurate.

I think this is a case of being behind the times, like when you write a check (remember those?) in the new year and you date it with the previous year. But in this instance they were sleepwalking for the first half of 1934.

Default Goudey

Brian

We know for a fact that GOUDEY was still printing and issuing their 1933 cards as late as Nov / Dec 1933.

We know this because the bios on the backs of last 24 cards reflect the 1933 World Series (Giants vs. Washington).
Assuming that date on your Greenberg card is original, the original owner of that card simply forgot to advance the
year on his stamp. "July 1, 1934" would be an accurate date for when the 1934 Greenberg issued.
