Default T206 back question

Posted By: Josh

Out of curiosity, how reliable is the T206 Museum Back scarcity list? Really, more to the point, how rare are the Piedmont 350-460 Factory 42 4th Dist NC backs?

I finalizing a lot for our upcoming March auction and I found an Ed Willetts SGC 50 with that back. It is going in our auction, but I'm wondering what it should sell for?

thanks for any help.
Josh

Default T206 back question

I would venture to say that this particular back would bring a much
higher $$ value than $250. Scot Reader's book rates this back almost
as rare as a DRUM or a LENOX back. My experience in collecting T206
cards confirms Scot's premise on this subject.

ted...i was interested in t206 backs about 10 years ago and hunted for piedmont fact 42's. they're rare...no doubt...but not as rare as drums! in my searching of about 1000 cards back then I found 3-4...i can't remember...but I still have all of them. they've recently sold on the bay for 100-150 range in g-vg so maybe a bit higher...but not like drums, uzits, lennox, red hindu. maybe like a broad leaf 350.

I don't think people care so much about fact designations as much as the back brand itself to currently justify such a premium.

just my $.02.

I would agree that they're not as rare as Drums or Uzits, but I would estimate them to be in the $300-$400 range as well. I purchased one on eBay not long ago in that range.

All they need is more publicity, I have 3, 2 bought as not advertised and my Smith Chic. & Bost as advertised, thought a tough card with a tough back would be neat to have, I believe I paid around $125 for it, in 20 or 30 shape.

They have been going for the $150-$250 range but I believe that Scots document is going to to change the pricing on alot of T206s.

The Piedmont 350-460 Factory 42 4th Dist NC back is a scarce back, but to put it in the same League with the Drum, is a loooonnnggg stretch of the collectors imagination.

Believe me, I'm not trying to take anything away from the Piedmont 350-460 Factory 42 4th Dist NC scarcity.

As for the worth of the card, I would imagine that a seasoned auctioneer would have that answer.

RARE is a four letter word for HYPE.

I think there are alot of Pied fact 42's that people don't realize are even in there collection, whereas the DRUM and UZITs are pretty easy to figure out.
