Default Collecting Interests?

Posted By: runscott

I know Elliot's discussed adding a "classified" section to the board. I think it would be good to simply know what everyone's collecting interests are - I often run across items/contacts that I pass on to others, and many of you have passed things my way. Also, I'm a pack-rat so I have loads of baseball-related stuff that I don't even collect, and cards that I couldn't pass up (I'm trying to focus, but geez it's tough!)

Here are my main interests:
t206
e95,e96 - vg or better
"catcher-gear" cards - prewwI
Reulbach,Rucker,Griffith,Baker cards,autographs,photos
"error" cards - pre-WWI
any pre-1910 baseball photos, especially team cabinets
anything vintage that looks cool (this is the problem!)

If anyone has any of these just lying around, let me know. Thanks.

Default Collecting Interests?

Let's see,

These are the sets I am working on at the moment:
T207
1933 Delong(only 9 more to go)
1953 Topps
1955 Bowman

I also have an interest in:
NY Yankees cards(all years)
Cabinet cards
Negro League related cards & memorabilia
Bill Urbanski cards & memorabilia
19th Century cards and memorabilia

I guess you can say I am somewhat of a type collector. I am not looking to get an example of every set made, but there are quite a few sets that I would like a card from. Ideally i'd like to get a Yankee if possible, but if not any example will do. For example I would like to add a Turkey Red cabinet to my collection, but I can never seem to get one in a price I can live with. Also i've been trying to get a 19th century card for the collection for some time but with no luck.

Take care,
Thomas

I am working on two issues:

T206
E90-1

Not very exciting I know, but I figured I'd better start with things that I can afford. I'm 1/10 done on e90, and about 1/3 on the monster. I have a ton of other stuff, not really a "type" collection, per se, just the accumulation of all the various cards I thought looked neat and were cheap.

I have kind of toned done my collecting for the moment...I just bought another guitar, and am spending my free time/money getting it to rock. But eventually I'll get back into it. I'm always on the lookout for lower-grade commons from these and related issues. I have a list of "haves" if anyone is interested.

Thanks for keeping the board interesting! I've learned so much.

My brother collects Banana Splits, I'm embarassed

But as you all can tell I turned him back to the ways of vintage card collecting. May the force stay with him.

T202, my favorite
T206, T205, Diamond Stars, and the not so vintage '57 Topps.
T3, if I can afford, Most beautiful set!!

Do you have any obscure Sid Gordon cards? Sid was my cousin, and I'm trying to obtain each of his cards. I'm down to the real toughies. Please e-mail me if you can be of assistance. Thanks.

Baseball: quality & aesthetic photographs, nearly all from the 20th centry (all years, not just old). Though a fan of trading cards, I haven't collected them of recent.
Non-sport: modern/contemperary alternative process photographs and original prints
Misc: Interest will sometimes be raised by item not fitting into said categories, whether it's a neat rare oddball card or rare music poster.

Want to start W600s, but Tom won't let me. I'm actively collecting the following (baseball and non in gradeable condition):

1887 N28 Allen & Ginter Champions (NM or better)
1888 N29 Allen & Ginter Champions (EX or better)
1888 N43 Allen & Ginter Champions (when I can find them)
1888 N162 Goodwin Champions (EX or better)
1888 N184 Kimball Champions (VG or better)
T200 Fatima (upgrading at this point)
T3 and T9 Turkey Reds (upgrading at this point and my favorite set)

I usually have trading material laying around. Usually cards from the sets I collect due to upgrading.

In order of importance...

1. Any Seattle hockey items (1915 to present)
2. Any Greg Luzinski items
3. T212 Obaks - 1910 150 Series cards and 1911's
4. T206 (only 100 more to go!)
5. Vintage hobby publications

I know, Seattle hockey and Greg Luzinski don't qualify as vintage baseball... but what's a guy to do?

Where are the creased type cards? Every time I see a T-214 Victory or T-215
Pirate, its NRMT & out of my price range.

As my brother takes great joy in pointing out, I collect Banana Splits (Saturday morning kids show from 1969-72) memoriblia. Becuase of his incesant pesting of me about my knowledge of t-cards, he slowly sucked me back into addiction after being clean and sober for over 10 years. The fact that there isn't much in the way Banana Splits that I don't own might have also contributed to my fall from the wagon.

Cards I plan on collecting are the one that I didn't collect on my first go around, that would be:

t207s and any e-cards except those wretched e91 fake designs.

Jay

i collect many different sets, my main interests are T204 ramly's especially with TTT backs(i will pay very strong for ones i need, or trade my dupe TTT backs) and E107 breisch williams, again will pay very strong or have dupes to trade for same.

i also collect the rarer 20th century type cards. T208, T214, T215, etc.

other sets i am working on:

T206-need the big 4
T205-need-collins mouth open, dahlen, grant, a. leifeild, moran stray line, wallace no cap 1 line & hoblitzell no stats.
T207-had it complete but traded baum & downey, so need to replace em.
T209-have the colors, need many black & whites
T210-have about 460 different, need upper series.
T211-need many
T212 obaks- 1909 need several with the frame and frameless backs, collecting it both ways, also need a few 1910's , 1911 is complete need a few upgrades.
E97- need sullivan, boston & both cy youngs.

i have many, many cards to trade for what i need or will buy outright. i am always looking for more obscure minor league type cards, such as clement bros bread or mono.

Scott:

Do you have any HOF duplicates from your 1903 Breisch Williams set ... specifically any HOF'ers of whom that 1903 card would be their very first PSA "gradable" card (like Bender, Chance, Chesbro, etc.)??

Please let me know if you would part with any ...

Thanks!

PS - I will be out of town for the next week, but I look forward to talking to you again!

I am trying to collect all of the T206 Detroit players with every back available for every Detroit player. There are only 30 Detroit players, but when all the backs are factored in, the total combinations is right around 535 cards! I am about half-way there.
My wantlist is posted on my website, along with some nice and unusual T206 cards available for sale or trade.

Close, it's Bingo instead Beagle.

There is so little left for me get that I am seriously thinking of unloading it all. The only major pieces I am missing are a costume that sold they sold to stations for 'appearances' and the talking telephone. The only time I saw one on eBay someone cancelled the BIN. I asked the seller what it was and offered to pay double ($200) if he would stop the auction, but he passed. Smart him, it sold for over $2K

There is another collector just itching to get his hands on the really rare pieces I have, including scripts to shows, prototypes of figures and salesmen samples.

Jay

I'm primarily a set collector. Right now I need a handfull of the following sets to complete-
'54 Wilson Franks
'49 Leaf (6 short prints left, c'mon, someone has to have them!)
'33 Goudey
N28 and N29 (3 of each set left)
In addition to that I"m sort of working on '15 Cracker Jacks and mopping up variations on '50's and 60s Topps and 55 Bowmans.
Banana Splits? About 8 years ago I was up for the Hanna Barbera account, and at the end of the meeting they told me it hinged on 1 final question- what were the names of the 4 Banana Splits. Somehow I pulled out Beagle, Fleagle, Drooper and Snork. So all this seemingly useless trivia can save you at times!

I collect a tough one....the 1914 Cracker Jacks. Ever since 1990 I wanted a Shoeless Joe Jackson Cracker Jack, and in 1994 I found a 1914 for sale by Lew Lipset. I bought it, and 3 years later decided to build the set around it. Just wish I would have found a 1915 instead, it would of been a lot easier. Anyway, anyone with any extra 14 CJs for sale, please let me know. Thanks--Mike. darthshoeless@aol.com

I collect any baseball cards prior to 1976. My favorites to collect are T206's and 1951 Bowman. In my humble opinion both sets are the most beautiful ever made. I also collect Ball Park prints, old postcards of old ballparks, ballpark seats from long ago ballparks vintage baseball equipment and vintage baseball playing games.

I am as close as I am going to get on the T206 set, completed the T205, E94, T212-3, need Speaker and Joe Jax in the E90-1, and need Cobb in the E93.
Closing in on the T207 (but damn those final 15 are tough!), closing in on the T212-1, Nadja E92 St. Louis toughies and E98.

Works in progress: E97 and T212-2, loooong way to go. Also picking up the oft-neglected Sporting Life in nice shape.

Suggestion: Scott B.- break up your T207 set, you'll make a fortune.

In order of Priority my current goals are:
1) High grade T202s -- mostly upgrades at this point
2) Not quite as High grade T205s -- mostly upgrades but also the infamous Hobby (no stats) and the Moran with the stray line
3) The remaining Hofers for my set: Harry Wright (old Judge) and Cubans of Lloyd and Charleton and that Frank Selee Alleghany card that supposedly exists somewhere.
4) Certain 19th century players (probably in Old Judge): Deacon White, Pete Browning, Jimmy Ryan, Little Nick Nichol and some other forgotten stars.
5) My nonvintage set building 1962 Topps and 1955 Bowman.
6) Also I like to accumulate 1939 Playballs, T206s and T207s which are possible future set goals.
Anyways I'd love to talk trade or even purchase for numbers 1-4 above.

Wade, if you're interested in a white S74 Wolter with the back, give me a holler.

Default Collecting Interests?

.....if I ever get my hands on either a T204 or a Koester's Bread Burkett or something of distant relative "Candy" Cummings, but I would "settle" for more achievable goals.

Cuban cards of Charleston and Torriente and especially Lloyd - to replace the one I just won from Leyland's but UPS lost! AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!

Something of hard-to-find favorites like Tommy Bond, George Cuppy, Charlie Jones, Bill Lange, Jake Stenzel, Jack Stivetts,
    or Will White.

A Breisch Williams card of any one of the following: John Anderson, Gene DeMontreville, Jack Doyle, Buck Freeman, Candy LaChance, Jack McCarthy, Earl Moore, Danny Murphy or Kip Selbach.

Any one of about 20 minor stars from the N172 set.

Now is that too much to ask?

Kevin,

I just tried to e-mail you, but it was bounced back to me as undeliverable. What is your e-mail address? Or you can e-mail me at ourfirstvacation@yahoo.com.

Default Collecting Interests?

My primary collecting interest is all pre-World War Two Hall of Famer cards (in low grade of course). Not just type cards, but every card picturing a Hall of Famer. Not an easy task, but I'm slowly chipping away at the list (With variations, etc. I have a list of ~8000 different cards out there, I'm up to 1350 in my collection so far).

I also collect "rookie" cards of post-war HOFers from all four sports and am working on some sets (T207, Oxfords, 1933-34 Goudey, Diamond Stars currently for prewar).
