Default Caramel and chocolate cards

Okay,

Stupid question for the evening. We all know how tobacco cards were issued with the pack, but how were caramel cards and cards from chocolate companies issued? If the candy was placed on the card, oils would stain almost all cards. Were the caramels wrapped and placed in packaging? Same thing with chocolate? They had to be different than gum cards as few cards had gum stains that were issued in the 50's and 60's. The gum in these packs was dry and brittle ( and not very good). Has anyone ever seen a caramel card in original packaging? Just wondering.

I don't think it's a stupid question at all. I've often wonder the same thing myself. I don't have an answer but maybe an addition to the mystery. The Collins - McCarthy Bagby shows what appears to be product stuck to the card. Was it placed in with the candy? How about the E121-80 of Alexander and Johnson. I've seen many cards with similar stains along the edges always somewhere around the perimeter of the card. Its only on the front and doesn't show through to the back. Is it product stain or other remnants of how the were packaged?

alexander and Johnson look like old tape marks. not sure about the other card. They may have wrapped the card and put it in the box of candies? guess I really don't know how they packaged the candy back then. Interesting. Would be interesting to see original packaging with a card in it.

I guess we all know how 1914 CJs were packaged... lots of caramel character stains on those cards.

I once had a "Schapira Big Show" candy card with candy still stuck to the back of the card. the candy residue was only the outer shell and looked similar to a M&M.... round hard sugar shell, but didnt see any chocolate.

I think Leon has the box from the Big Show Candy, if I remember right it had Zoo Animals on it and was designed after a Zoo wagon

Thats all I can add, good question.

As you will see in the pics below, one of my Schapira Wajos has a candy residue area on the front and the other Wajo has a candy spot area on the back.
