Mike,
That "LA" is the logo of the Los Angeles Angels of the Pacific Coast League. The Angels were in LA up until the end of 1957 when the Dodgers came to town. If you look at the 1955-1957 Angels caps, the logo is almost exactly like the ones used by the current Dodgers. Only major difference is the serif on the top of the "A" is different. The Dodgers had to buy the Angels franchise in order to own the LA territory, so I guess the rights to the logo came with the purchase of the team. Since The Babe Comes Home was filmed in Hollywood, they used Wrigley Field (the team was owned by the same Wrigley who owned the Cubs) and whatever Angels uniforms they had laying around.
