Default Very Early Set of AL & NL Baseball Dolls - HELPPPPP

Ok here is the scoop - a friend of mine has these two dolls.... I have had interest in them for a long time...I would love to try to work a purchase or trade out with him BUT really am at a loss for what to you value these at .....any and all info you guys may have on these would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!

he has always been reluctant to trade them, but i am hoping i picked up the perfect piece of trade bait this time to entice him, but just trying to cover all bases and get some info on these before i lay down a few real rare items in return

Those are worth a lot... especially in that condition.

Hunt's has a horrible search function, but I believe they had one or the other at some point in time. If you want to invest the time (and futility), you can probably find a price realized. Their search function does not seem able to handle more than one "key word", so it may be a challenge to find. I would start by using the word "Doll".

Legendary may also have had one... their search function is far more user-friendly. Same for Leland's and REA (though I can't recall seeing these particular dolls in either).

If I recall, the condition of the Hunts/Legendary Doll was not even close to the pair you posted. These dolls could have been made for the inaugural (first-ever) All-Star Game... but they look even earlier than that. I know there is a back story that makes them quite desirable. In that condition, I would estimate the value at $3,000 - $3,500 for the pair, but that's purely an educated guess.

Good luck finding prices realized, as these are super-rare!

Closest I could find in Hunt's is linked below... The face is rounder and mouth is open, so it's not the same doll (but very close). They say it's circa 1915...

http://www.huntauctions.com/LIVE/ima...=898&lot_qual=

It has what appears to be the original Bat and Hat, and sold for more than double Hunt's pre-auction estimate. Plus, tack on another 10% for the Buyer's Premium (Hunts' premium had not yet risen to its current 15% level)

This should provide a decent guideline as to value.... Hope this helps!

wow thank you so much

wish it had the hat and bat - worst part was at the auction that the original owner bought these at (just an estate sale) they were going to throw them away, and did throw away a bunch of other stuff apparently - i bet the hats and bats went in the dump that day!

this does help and ensures my interest

Well (if it's any consolation), we don't know with certainty that the Hat and Bat originally came with these 2 Dolls. It's likely that they both originally had Caps, but the Bat may have been limited to the other variation featured in Hunt's.

You might be able to see a remnant or evidence of where the Bat was attached, if you examine closely (that is, if there ever was a Bat). But unless others surface that are identical to your friend's, we may never know the answer.

Phenomenal pieces, either way!
