MattyC thanks. I agree. I love that whole set but it all started the first time I saw the Cobb.

Thank you for the additional information - very interesting. I’ll definitely look into this further.

Insanely quick turnaround on this re-holder from SGC. I could not be happier with how this looks. SO SHARP! Best overall player of the 19th century according to Cap Anson, Jim O'Rourke, and Paul Hines among others. The 19th century single season home run king!

Not to rain on your parade but Williamson was a .255 lifetime hitter. He was also not a home run hitter. He hit a then record 27 HR in 1884 when the White Sockings played in a a park where the LF was 186 feet from home plate (prior to that season they were counted as doubles). Other than that year he never hit more than 9 HRs in a season and never led the league in HRs.

I’m well aware of that. I cover all of that in the bio I made. All I’m saying is that a large number of his peers considered him the greatest player of the 19th century (or that they had ever seen) including the names I mentioned, much like Cobb’s peers would name him as the greatest.

All that aside he was still the single season home run king for 35 years until Ruth broke it.

As for the previous season (1883), you are right, anything over the fence counted as a double and Ed had 49 of them.

A really nice looking card, I'm not a pre 1900 guy as alot of the images are faded, if they all looked like that I might be tempted to jump in the pool.

Thanks! That was what initially drew me to it, it's extremely vivid for an OJ.

Thank you, I really appreciate that! It's a lot of fun to research 19th century players and it lets me work on my voice over without the pressure of my larger narration projects.

Love the Ruth 1925 Champions Exhibit Jeff. Plus two Ruth Lections changing hands in the same month… wow. I almost get tired of congratulating Ryan on his pickups.. American Pub Wagner such a rare postcard that is still under valued. The pop on that card has to be around 5.

EDIT: Congrats to whoever won the T5 WaJo last night. I hope it went to a board member. Those don't come up for sale very often.

Wow Jim, gorgeous card.

Jay, congrats. That’s a good looking toughie!

Chad, great pick up. I was watching that one. Very tough and real cool.

Sticking with the Ruth(ian) theme, I grabbed this last night

@Rotchkiss
I was chatting with Pete about his recent Ruths, and mentioned the 1926 Underwood.
I was bidding on it on the earlier stages and was asking him if he was gunning for it.
Damn! You added a very nice piece there i gotta say.

Side note- anyone notice the Magie error? Though it went a tad lower from what i expected, since there were hitting 12-15k. Eh, maybe it was the creases.

Ever since I was a kid, I loved the 1953 Bowman Mantle that I was introduced to through a 1989 Bowman reprint (the one with the sweepstakes on the back). I signed it "Mickey Mantle" as a kid and still have the card.

I've been looking for a legit one for a little bit now, and finally found the perfect one for me! I was looking for a nearly perfect front with some character on the back (paper loss).

Great pick ups from Heritage guys, Ryan, outstanding as usual. Congrats to all.

I had an E100 Weaver hole in my line-up ever since I traded mine to Leon. Happy to pick this one up.

I've been looking for a legit one for a little bit now, and finally found the perfect one for me! I was looking for a nearly perfect front with some character on the back (paper loss).
An absolute beauty Nate, gorgeous!

Gorgeous M110 Lajoie. Love the look of that set and especially the Lajoie pose.

Congratulations!

Jay, congrats. That’s a good looking toughie!

Chad, great pick up. I was watching that one. Very tough and real cool.

Sticking with the Ruth(ian) theme, I grabbed this last night

Wow Ryan!!! Beautiful piece!!!! Congrats on the win!
FWIW- I think the Ruth Star Player went for really cheap
in that auction.

Such an interesting piece, that Underwood Ruth.

Strong 53B Mick and great eye appeal on the T227 Ty.

Very high end Lections and Oxford Ruths on display here, too. Congrats to all on great additions. That is for me the salient (and good) feature of Net54, that when guys here get new pieces they are for collections and not touted as "grails" that are for sale the next day LOL.
