Default M116 question

Posted By: leon

Hey Folks,
First of all thanks for the courteous and intelligent responses on the SGC registry questions. The last round of them was very good and I do believe that we are on our way to having multiple collections to view on the SGC Registry board. I hope it is as open ended as I think it should be. I am also going to ask that the sets not be "weighted" so there is no ranking of them. I would love to see more of other folks sets in a non-competitive way. Here is the question though. I picked up another M116 last night on ebay and it was more for the back than the front (although Collins is a nice card anyway). I now have 3 different backs. I know I have, in one of my many reference books, seen a list of how many different backs there are. Does anyone know offhand? Thanks in advance and best regards...ps..I believe this one to be fairly scarce compared to the others...

Default M116 question

Posted By: leon

Well,
With the underwhelming response received I pulled out my own references for the answers. It only took about 30 minutes to find. I thought it would take longer. All of the backs are printed in blue ink with one exception. Actually there are about 12 exceptions as Series 3 was printed in black and blue and has only the "When you think of baseball, etc..." back. There are subtle differences to some of the fronts of the the Series 3 cards too (there were 24 series in all) but I am not concerned with those for my type set. So the answer to the first question is: There are only 3 different backs to the set...and the first words on the different backs are:

1."When you think of Base Ball" (sic)
2."If you want Base Ball News" (sic)
3."Sporting Life's Base Ball Players" (sic)

. ....regards all

well, just by dumb luck, I own 4 m116s and I have all 4 differnt backs. When I first saw the black ink back, I thought I had a reprint until someone told me that some of the cards did have black ink backs
