Default A New Dazzy Vance "Rookie" card

Picked this one up recently...I knew as soon as I saw it that it had Dazzy on it, but got the approval from Mark F. before posting it here...it passed the ear test. This is either 1912 or 1913 Superior...I've been trying to match up faces with Spalding Guide photos, but the Superior photos in the Spalding's are horrible.

Default Dazzy

Nice find. Dazzy has such a distinctive face. It appears he was one of those "young but looks old" type of guys.

Great find. He kinda looks like Sterling Holloway, though you probably have to be a big fan of old movies to know who he was. I think he was the voice of Winnie the Pooh.

He does look like Holloway...Right away when I first glanced at this postcard my eyes gravitated right to Vance. Straight shoulders and that face that looks like an old man...he was only 21 or 22 years old here. And while researching this I found an error at Baseball Reference which I believe is updated by SABR members.

Dazzy Vance did not play for York in 1912...in fact he never played for York so I'm not sure why they have it listed that way.

According to baseball-reference.com he was with Superior in 1913 and went 11-14.

edited to add: oops, didn't see that you'd already attached a link

So let's see. We have Sterling Holloway who looks like Dazzy Vance and William Bendix who played Babe Ruth. Everything comes full circle to baseball.
