Default e107s in Legendary last night

Just curious if anyone here ended up with the e107 Kittredge or Demont. Was going after both really strong, well past 1 AM, but whoever won them wouldn't budge. No worries, I'm not going to pester anyone to part with them. Just curious who beat me is all, so congrats to the winner

I did win a really nice PSA 4 Freil so I'll be content with that this time around

Thank you, sir! Going after the set is a monumentous task that I'm not sure I'm up for. This is more of a "Hey, lets take the next several years and see how many I can get...." sort of a thing . I think I'm up to 17 with the Freil.

Agreed, I am at half that. A difficult endeavor.

I'm not even sure if Chris Sullivan was able to complete the entire set, and he was at for over 20 years. I would say completing the entire E107 set is bordering on impossible.

Is there a reason why the Poole card went for $9,000? I don't know enough about it to know if it's that rarer than others or anything like that - was this just a case of two set builders needing the one card?

It sold for as much or more than the Plank, Waddell or Addie Joss!

The Poole was a rare variation (Brooklyn) and not the more commonly found Cincinnati.

And when you're talking about a rare card/set to begin with, a "rare variation" makes it that much more difficult, hence the final bid.

As was Kittredge, the Boston is the more common version. The Washington much more difficult.

Thanks guys - I was unaware of these variations.

I thought the price on the Plank and Joss were lower than I would have expected - I wish I could've justified bidding on the Joss, but couldn't quite pull the trigger last night on it!

I don't believe anyone has completed the set with all the team variations, but I could be wrong. I know a few collectors have come very close.

This is the reason I backed off the Kittredge at the very end. I figured I'd wait for a Boston version as Kittredge, I believe, isn't horribly scarce unless you're trying for the Washington variation - and team variations are always valued extremely high in general.

I got the Joss. I don't recall seeing the card for sale before. It was a PSA 4 for $8500. Is that high, low, or about right?

You got a great deal (although the final amount will be more with the juice). The last one sold at the 2013 REA Spring auction and was similar condition. I don't have my spreadsheet open, but I believe it went for a little north of $14k. SGC 45, if I recall correctly.

A 4 grade E107 Joss for under $9K? You made out, trust me. I know E cards as a whole have cooled off over the past few years, but now is the time to buy, and you did very good

Agreed. I think that a lot of the higher grade e107s went for very affordable prices. That joss was certainly an affordable get compared to what I've seen cards of him do in the past. I think that maybe so many high grade examples being offered at one time might be diluting the final prices a bit since most collectors cant afford to bid on more than one or two of these. Sort of makes people be a little more choosy than perhaps they would be if only a couple random e107s turned up.

Default E107's

The Plank, Joss, and Waddell, all went cheap in respect to their grades. It's amazing when one or two bidders are taken out of the picture, how the final prices can vary in either direction.

You got a great deal on the Joss. I believe that Legendary's May 2014 auction is going to have the final installment of the Sullivan collection.

I knew some of the prices would get soft, when his collection was going to hit the market. It's going to be interesting to see where the prices on E107's go from there.

Tony

I have never heard of nor seen a scan of the E107 Jack Doyle, Philadelphia Nationals team variation. I have a team set of E107s, lacking that card, and I'm becoming increasingly convinced that there may be only one or two in existence

I was happy to get it, and glad to hear that it sounds like I didn't overpay for it. Thanks for the perspective.
