Default Back to my Roots...

Posted By: MVSNYC

as you guys know, i have been a high-grade T206 collector for years...BUT, when i started collecting this amazing set as a kid, i started raw...i have decided to roll up my sleaves and put together a clean-looking raw set...i will of course, keep my rare backs and a few select hi-end pieces.

i was inspired when i saw Ted Z. & Dan M's "binders"...i know this will take a while, but over the last 24 hours between Scott Levy & eBay, i quickly gathered 100 clean cards...

feels fun again...

MS

p.s. if anyone has clean lots let me know...

It is fun to be able to touch your cards.

There is something special about collecting a raw set.

Good luck.

Will you be cracking out cards if you buy them slabbed?

Michael,
My set is mostly (90%) raw and in binders. I am actually just considering submitting the remaining HOFs for grading. In order to keep the binder complete, I bought a reprint set and replaced all the holes where graded cards should go with with a reprint, so I can still flip through a complete set in the binder.

Thanks guys! i'm excited.

Joe- will probably keep some things slabbed and fill in binder with a few reprints as Jim mentioned (Scott also suggested that to me)...

John- as discussed, you know i'll take your lot...looking forward to getting it at the Scott's party...thanks.

Michael,
Nice pickup on that 74 card lot on ebay last night. I had my beady eyes on it as well. I'm glad you got it, though. I would probably have just broken it up anyway.

Great. Just what I need, more competition. You couldn't wait until I picked up the last 60 cards I need? <LOL>

At least I'm an "armpit" collector. I probably have 50 or so dupes, but I think they are below the quality you are seeking.

Welcome aboard.

Watch those 15-slot pages Mike, it can be a nightmare resurrecting a card from it's protective depth...

Don't want to speak for Jeff, but I think he was commenting on the difficulty of getting cards out of the slots when using the 15 card pages. One of the problems of collecting raw v. graded.

On a similar subject, I think the best way to store raw T206's (and other tobacco cards) is the Ultra-Pro tobacco size toploaders and sleeves. After that you can store the cards, in holders, in a box or in a 9-pocket page.

Yeah sorry, I was talking about the plastic pages. A T206 with wider vertical borders can be a bit stubborn when removing - at least with the UltraPro 15-slot pages I was using. I prefer putting raw cards in Cardsavers then putting them in pages - a black paper divider page between each plastic sheet adds nice contrast, similar to SGC holders.
