Default Lets see your Pre-War cards with catchers wearing their masks

Posted By: Patrick McMenemy

I thought a thread showing cards with catchers wearing their masks might make for an interesting thread. Let's see how many different issues have examples.

Here are a few of my favorite ones that I own.

E136 1912 Zeenut Auer

T3 Turkey Red Cabinet Red Kleinow

T206 Red Kleinow (Boston)

T206 Red Kleinow (New York)

T206 Mike Powers

T206 Fred Snodgrass

T210 Old Mill Lucia

Thanks for the responses.

I was really surprised to see how few cards actually have the catcher wearing the mask.

Are there any more catchers with the mask on in the Zeenut sets?

Any more in the T210 set?

Any Home Run Kisses with the catcher wearing the mask?

Thanks,

Patrick

Patrick,

Lucia is the only catcher in the second series of the T210 set that is pictured wearing his catcher's mask.

Patrick,

I've always liked that T206 Powers. It's one of those cards that I kick around in the back of my mind to pick up someday just b/c I like it.

So he's in full gear, which means game mode, actively playing, and in the picture he is just ... standing there. It's such a casual pose and casual look that it's totally incongruent with his having the equipment on.

If cards with catchers wearing masks are few, then cards with catchers standing around doing nothing while in full gear are fewer.

J

My favorite image of all time, from the Fleishmann's Bread set. It took quite a while to finally acquire one of these.

Cool idea. I never realized there were so many of these cards. Or maybe I never have really paid attention to them.

I picked this Lone Scout Magazine up off of ebay a few years back because I recognized the face as Chief Meyers. Last night I checked Slocum's Classic Baseball Cards book and realized that the Fleischmann's Meyers card has the exact same image. Thanks for posting the image Brian.

Just a reminder that we are looking for scans of catchers wearing the mask.

Thanks again for the responses.

Patrick

P.S. The Lone Scout Magazine was issued April 27, 1918. There is no reference to Chief Meyers listed.
