Personally, I would be nervous. Check out http://www.robertedwardauctions.com/.../2012/365.html. I found this in about 90 seconds. To me it looks like the same card, particularly from the back. Notice the crease in the corner and mark by Philadelphia combined with the other stains.

I agree, looks to be the same exact card to me. I'd hold off on paying for that one.

I would be asking questions and talking to this guy on the phone before I sent any money. His feedback is much less than inspiring given the nature and value of this card..Also, of the 3 sales he has made in the last year, the combined feedback of the 3 buyers is 6.

absolutely is the same card.....look at caramel stains on the back. Look at small dark stain on the P in Philadelphia. You can match every stain, small and large on the 2 cards....

I contacted the seller pretty quick after it was posted. Asked for additional scans and a local p/u to this response:

Dear rainier2004,

Yeas it does seem to be trimmed i had a employee list this item on night shift last night so i will have to revise it sometime today. It looks like all the sides may be trimmed. There are also glue stains on the back of the card that has bleed through to the front. Also there are two pin holes all the way through the card that can not be seen in the photo. I will try to get some more pictures so you can see the other flaws the card has.

- rbcd2001

He does offer money back, but left me uncomfortable ignoring the p/u question as I told him I was right down the street in NJ. His feedback is on very low-priced items, non-bb cards. He had a raw ex+ 1953T Mantle f/s as well that looked fishy to me as well and is longer posted. Couldnt find the pinholes in the scan...be careful here boss. Good luck and let us know.

I agree with the guys who have responded so far. Leon makes an excellent point. Look at the seller's feedback. He hasn't sold anything else remotely close to this price. In June 2009, he sold something for just over $200.

Isn't it odd that all of a sudden he would be selling a premiere vintage Jackson card? His 3 current auctions are for fishing reels <$5.

Do us all a favor, since you created this thread, and let us know what happens.

Good luck.

Leon is totally right. He has only made 3 sales in the past year and each buyer has 3 or fewer feedbacks. Something stinks and stinks bad. The poor grammar is also a give away. If someone makes more than 5 grammatical errors per sentence I stay away from the listing. But let me get this straight you paid 4700 for an ungraded card listed on ebay from a guy that has made three five dollar sales in the past year and who can't compose a sentence any better than a second grader. Doesn't seem like the smartest thing in the world to do.

Hi, this is Dave Slomer,I had a very unpleasent time, about two months ago. Andy madic , was flying into cincy to pick up some items for mile high auction(andy has since parted from mile high) and I had a psa 6 ,perfectly centered 1952 mantle as part of pick up.I was very ill at the time ,more ill when andy told me , my mantle was bogus. apparently the new game now is to (1) remove the expensive card and sell it raw and replace with computer generated image or (2) forge the psa or sgc top description and grade #.the tell tale sign is the plastic will look like it's been glued back together. I have a happy ending, I emailed the seller and suggested a police and federal postal investigation and recieved my joe jackson rc,ty cobb t3, sgc a, and my goudey #181 Ruth back.

PayPal tells me they have to give the seller until the 29th to respond why does it take a second to pay but 10 days to get a refund? Rob

Hopefully this all works out for you and it'd be nice if the seller has convicted fraud that there would be some type of penalty.

The only way this can work out is you do not get the card, and you get a refund. If the seller owned the card, and cracked it out, he would not be selling using a cropped version of the REA scan. In addition, he lied to Steve and said that the card was trimmed. No, the scan is trimmed. There is no card.

Scott - So how does all this work? The card never shows, the buyer tries to get his money back. Couldnt the seller just move the PP funds into his bank account thus preventing any return? Completely agree w/ you here, there is no card. Im just wondering how he would ever get his money back. The seller gets kicked off ebay, but big deal for $4700. Is there a way he actually sees that money again?

Because when you paid you both agreed to the transaction. This time the seller is not agreeing to the refund.

Don't forget, many times the scammer is the buyer who demands a refund after receiving a real card.

I spoke to someone at Paypal and they said they are holding the money and they said seller does not have access to it. Should I not be covered by EBay buyer protection?

Yes, the seller can move the funds (I'm surprised he hasn't) But Paypal will still give the buyer a complete refund. I think most of the scammers are actually scamming ebay, not the buyer. Given this, it's really in ebay's best interest to remove scammers and fake items as soon as we alert them.

That is good news. Say what you want to about PayPal but they do have some protections that help against fraud and other bad business practices. About 6 months ago when we moved to our new hosting company for this board, I had paid a full year (around $1200) to the previous hosting company in order to get our own server. They were so inept that I had to fire them...they actually couldn't do the job they said they could. I requested a refund from them but got no response. I filed a claim with Paypal, explained the situation,.....and about 2 weeks later got all of my money back. Had I paid with a money order or check there is no way that would have happened. I would have been without my money. I know PayPal has issues but they also do a good job most of the time.

You could call Paypal. Since they just gave one refund based on the seller's scam, it would be in their best interest to take proactive action regarding the other sale.
