One last bid didn't get the job done.

For someone who knows nothing about T206s, could someone please explain what is going on in Lots 66 and 67. Why is Lot 66 preferable?

Jay,

I'm assuming it's the SC fact. 25 back which is tough, but I don't usually see a premium on.

Kind of strange.

That kind of premium is a odd, but I don't associate any SC with a premium. Maybe two people going for a Brown back run. Here is the ranking of the SC on the list of 38 backs.

18. Sweet Caporal 350-460 factory 25
19. EPDG
20. American Beauty 350 frame
21. Sovereign 350 apple green
22. Sweet Caporal 350-460 factory 42
23. Cycle 350

Where
35. Piedmont 350-460 factory 25

Nice
330k for the plank.
It is the biggest paid price for a t206 plank?

I really am clueless as to why certain cards went for hundreds of dollars. Common SGC 50s going for 100+, an Authentic Doc Adkins for over 100$, ....?????

I agree with this, however the Adkins had a pretty cool ghost image....

Default Won 10

I went to bed at 11:00pm Eastern last night winning 10 cards and woke up this morning and won all 10. I did overpay for each and every one, but am happy with my purchase.

Default Persons miscut

I was really interested in the Persons miscut, but just couldn't pull the trigger on what would have been a $300 bid (with juice and shipping).

Thanks -- I am sure you can appreciate how a really clean unsigned version of a T206 card that I have signed glows a little brighter!

That is a strange one, I have owned four SGC 50/PSA 4 of this card, one was $66 and three were $85.

i only buy T206's occasionally, but managed to win one card last evening. Overall, i thought the opening bids were too high for the run of the mill SGC60 commons.

Lost out on 4 t206's. Prices ridiculous when you consider auction premium. Guys must simply want to say I bot this at Goodwyn.

Default I guess

I guess at least 2 people didn't think the Plank was trimmed, as I didn't. Nice price on that one. It went for more than I thought it would but less than some other estimates.

It is the highest price for one sold at public auction. A PSA 8 sold privately
a couple of years ago that I believe traded for more.

Haha yes, definitely. That signed Leifield is amazing, the background on the card is awesome. That's one of my favorite cards signed you have, because it has some of the best artwork for the T206's.

Yes, the horizontals are neat T206's, and being that there are only a half of dozen of them and are a bit tougher then many of the other commons, they are fun to collect. I'm sure that You'll complete that subset, soon enough.

BTW, a big congrats on Your recent Plank acquisition. Though there are other difficult hurdles to clear, to reach near completion, that is the biggie (Wagner & Doyle aside).

Not to be argumentative, but that could simply mean that two people either put blind faith in grading companies, thought it was trimmed and didn't care, or paid for the fact that it's a gorgeous card and it's the only Plank with that back in a numbered holder.

Of course those are all possibilities too. Good points. I hope someone shelling out 330k for a piece of cardboard doesn't put blind faith in what they are buying but it certainly is a possibility.

Default T206 Honus Wagner

There was a short piece about the Wagner card on WCBS NewsRadio 880 when I was out at lunch time. I was very impressed that the on-air personality (Pat Farnack) reporting the story properly pronounced The Dutchman's first name.

According to a brief clip from Bill Goodwin the winner is from New Jersey.

It wasn't me!

Ha. Ha. No the McDonalds worker was in a pool that bought the Plank. However, she went back and bought the Wagner solely for herself. Then she hid it somewhere @ Mickey D's.

The SC 150 overprint fact 649 carries a bit of a price premium, ~1/3-1/2 additional imho. Which is nowhere near as high as that went for. My guess, and someone who's tried to collect a 649 sub-set can chime in, is that this particular player is particularly difficult in that back.

The Atz seems to be miscut -- the top is slanted while the bottom and sides are straight. So it's not your typical "diamond-cut". My guess is that one of the many "oddity" collectors went for it.

I walked away with just this one, but am pretty happy as it didn't reach my max bid:

I did try for a whole slew of others, alas. I agree with the earlier posts that the SGC 50s and 60s seemed to go for higher than usual-market value. The SGC 80s, though, had relatively lower starting bids and were more accessible, and in the end sold for strong but reasonable prices.

Oh, and to whomever won the Lundgren KC card -- enjoy it, it's a beauty. If you ever think of selling it down the road, please let me know. It'd go great to pair with the Chicago version that I own; I simply don't have the funds right now to have chased it this time.

Cheers,
--S
