Default Tuesday nite Trivia ?

What pitcher was so awestruck when the batter, he was pitching to, hit such a tremendous HR....
that he walked off the mound and greeted this batter at home plate and shook his hand ?

Had to google the answer. Will hold off until others have a chance to play. Hints: The batter is more obvious than the pitcher. It wasn't Roger Clemens and Mike Piazza.

As I recall Buck O'Neill told this story in Ken Burns' Baseball.

How about Bill "Spaceman" Lee when he threw his famous blooper or slurve or whatever you want to call that stupid pitch to Tony Perez in Game 7 of the 75 World Series. What a moon shot as that ball is still climbing over the green monster. I know this is not the right answer but boy, if there was ever a time to greet a hitter at homeplate, that would have been it and "spaceman" would have been just the one to do it.

Can you tell I am not bitter and I am over it?

I've got to tell you Michael that as a life-long Reds fan, I'm still enjoying it!!

Default Tuesday nite Trivia

Peter Spaeth....and I'm sure David McDonald....both have the correct answer.

Ten years ago in Cooperstown on HOF weekend, Buck O'Neill was "holding court" with a bunch of us. And, one
of his stories was....the one time Satchel Paige pitched to Babe Ruth was in a barnstorming game (after Ruth
had retired from BB). Ruth hit a 500 foot HR off Paige. Paige was so awestruck by this, that he walked over to
home plate, as Ruth was rounding the bases, and shook Ruth's hand.

However, it has been said that this event has been contradicted in Paige's biography. Paige comments that his
one regret in BB is "that he never pitched to Babe Ruth".

Who should we believe ?

I choose to believe Buck O'Neill.
