Can anyone tell me if this show is worth a day trip for a vintage collector?

It's not as good as the Philly show this weekend, but there are generally about 10-12 dealers with good prewar material.

Tim,
It depends on your definition of "worth it".

I'm planning on driving up from Richmond. I don't mind the drive but didn't want to take the better part of a day if there is little in the way of vintage cards.

You'll find some vintage, but not at prices worth paying. Drive to the Philly show or the National if you want a decent vintage show. But no matter where you look you won't find prices that compete with eBay.

Enjoy shows for the camaraderie, not for the prices

Tim,

I take the opposite approach. If you're coming from Richmond, that's not that long of a drive, so do go. If for no other reason you'll meet about half a dozen or so Net54 members.

I think it's worth a reasonable day trip though it has become more and more of an autograph show. I guess it depends on how starved one is for a reasonably good card show. Disclosure: I'll be setting up there and yes the prices might be a bit high compared to Ebay, but they're negotiable. wink.gif

Hi Tim,

The Chantilly Show is a decent show. I know that you are searching for Boston Braves cards, so you may have some difficulty finding some. But you may find some things that you need.

In our world of collecting, there truly aren't that many people who collect the old cards. The Chantilly Show is a way to possibly find something that you don't have, plus you can talk cards face-to-face with other eager collectors. For that alone, the show is worth it.

I will be setting up as well. I should be near the front. If you drive up, please stop by my table and say hello. Ken Cohen will be there, Ron Barret will be there. These guys have some nice vintage material. Also a good friend of mine, Rick Keplinger, who is an old school collector, has broken into his safe and is setting up and bringing some interesting vintage items.

So if the 2-3 hour ride is no big deal to you, I think that you will enjoy yourself. We do have probably 20-25 people that contribute to the board, who show up without setting up. You may run into some of them.

Take care.

Cy

Gentlemen,

I appreciate all the feedback and from your comments it sounds like a great time. Barring something unexpected I look forward to meeting you at the show.
