Default T206 Collins (hoping this is not way OT)

Posted By: Jason Carota

I just came across this card on the Bay tonight:

Topps labeled the card as "Jimmy Collins Phila. Amer." Isn't the player pictured actually Eddie Collins? There are two Jimmy Collins I know of. One is pictured here:

The other did play for Philadelphia at the end of his career, yet he spent most of his time in Boston (including the 1903 WS against Pittsburgh.) As-far-as I know, his playing days ended after Philadelphia in 1908, therefore, there would not be a T206 featuring him.

Am I correct guessing that Topps mislabeled their card?

Yes Topps mislabeled the card. If you find a T206 Eddie Collins it will look exactly like that Topps card.

O/T to your original post but I consider it a travesty that Topps cut up bats and uniforms from players like Eddie Collins, John Evers, John McGraw and others to make those bat/jersey cards.

That's what I thought. All the times I have searched for the real Eddie Collins T206, his portrait T206 always showed up slabbed by PSA and SGC as Eddie. When this Collins popped up, I got confused. Thanks, Jay.

The card is mislabeled but not mis-pictured. Surely Topps is claiming that this sliver of wood is part of an Eddie Collins bat: It is next to impossible to identify a bat from Jimmy Collins's era as having been used in a game not to metnion having been used by by anyone in particular. Of course it is disgusting to contemplate someone actually cutting up an old game used bat or jersey. I keep hoping that the people at Topps, UD, et al who issue these cards are just lying about it.

The Jimmy Collins pictured in my original post playing for Minneapolis is the Jimmy Collins who managed the Red Sox in the first World Series. In that post, I came to the conclusion that he did not have a T206 card. I did know that after the 1908 season in Philadelphia, he left the major leagues and eventually played for Providence (hence his T205.) Little did I know that he spent 1909 as a player-manager for the Millers.
