Redsox win thanks in part to Evan Longaria. He was out last night dead drunk at a bar in Boston. Almost got arrested and made an error that gave the sox the game tonight. Thanks Evan. Keep drinking!!!!

Great news! I missed the last part of the game on my drive home--figured it was curtains for our beloved BoSox.

On another note, could someone tell Evan Longoria that he is NOT on "Desperate Housewives"? Every time he comes to the plate, all I can think of is the actress whose supposed beauty is the subject of far too much exaggeration.

I would never do a thing like that. I know where he was though. He was not in good shape at closing time. Bobbing and weaving is no way to go. Nice throwing error in the 9th. Love it.

Jodi--I agree. I guess he is one of those metrosexuals?

Terrific game. I seldom have ever actually sat through a big comeback like thatin its entirety. I notice some of the journalists were calling Terry Francona Tito. Does he also go by his old man's name or are they just mixing things up?

Toby,

I see how you easily misinterpreted my post, but you have a point! I was just playing off the similarity in Eva/Evan Longoria. He does look like a "pretty boy", though, doesn't he?! Man, he was really pissing me off over the previous two games!

Ken,

Terry is called Tito in Boston. Think after his dad as you said.

Joid,

Thought there was a double meaning there. Eitherway, we both are right!

My son goes to Suffolk University in Boston. He was able to get bleacher tickets just before the game fairly cheap, most people thought the sox were down and out so the ticket prices were down.

Oh to be young and in Boston. We thank the folks who bought Longoria his drinks all night last night.
Go sox!

Remember the good old days of 1991 when Jack Morris refused to give up the ball and pitched 10 innings to beat the Braves in the WS? Oh for the days before the dreaded and stupid pitch count.

I don't think Kazmir has seen the 6th inning all year.

And what a comeback. I'm sick about it. It's like a bad dream.

Slept through the ending, of course, and was shocked to hear the score this morning. Red Sox make a habit of digging a deep hole in the post-season and coming back. Are they going to do it again?

As a newspaper guy, I hope to heck that the secondary headline on "Heartbreaker" is for a column and not a straight game story. Nice objectivity.

I looked on CraigsList in the afternoon yesterday, and saw many tickets going for less than face value for Game 5 last night. I tried to convince a few people to go, and between it being cold, or the Sox weren't playing well, or the game was probably going to go past midnight with Matsuzaka and Kazmir pitching, I couldn't find anyone to go. So I watched the incredible comeback from home - what an awesome game!

How do you think the people felt who left in the 7th inning, when the Sox were down 7-0? There seemed to be a lot of people leaving then!

I was sitting in the Bleachers last night. The crowd was pretty dead with a few heading for the exit after the sixth. The crowd woke up a bit when "Wild Thing" started and Papelbon came in, however when he quickly gave up a two run double, a few more people left, although not as many as I expected would. However once the Sox started hitting the place really picked up.

Great game. If by some miracle Becket is healthy - look out.

Edited to add, the double to center field by Kotsay and Drew's hit to end the game both should have been caught.

I doubt anyone will admit to walking out of Fenway (or clicking off the tele) on the biggest night in history.

I love my wife, but she had to shut the tv off at the 7th inning -Apparently she'd forgotten Oct '04. I watched the play by play on the ipod... She was kicking herself out the door this AM. Loving my teeth more than the Sox, I kept my piehole shut.

Saturday's the big game. If the Sox win, they'll win the series. You have to like Lester over Garza in Game 7. That said, I think the Rays bounce back behind Shields. Beckett is no longer Beckett.

I can look at this two ways....

1.) I can mope and wish that my Orioles some day, some how will get to this stature in baseball again

or

2.) I can root against the Yankees and Red Sox, knowing full well that my Orioles will get killed by the AL East next year (yet again). By doing so, I can relax and not worry if the Orioles will win or not. Because I already have my answer...

Tampa came so close to stealing the Giants back in 1992. I still remember that weaselly Tampa city manager appearing at press conference after press conference after Bob Lurie had agreed to sell to Vince Naimoli, essentially taunting the fans in San Francisco. The notion that Tampa Bay could win a World Series after only 12-13 years in the league must not stand. That was a fun game to watch last night.

Never mind the Rays possibly winning the Series. What about that legendary franchise, the Florida Marlins, with two championships and roughly the same amount of fans?

I'm not sure if I should admit this or not, but I turned down the sound on the TV and was playing this on the youtube for sound while the game was going on. Then after Drew's hit to win the game I rewound it on the DVR and played it in slo-mo with this music still going.

Yes, I may need help...

I think the Rays are about to experience one of the all-time meltdowns, right up there with the 2002 Giants and 2004 Yankees.

Brock- you very well may be correct.

The 2004 Yankees only held a one-run lead when their collapse began. The Rays had a seven run lead. It's almost inconceivable a team could blow a game like that.

Can there be any question that it is tougher to come back from a 3-1 deficit, down 7-0 in the 7th inning than it is to come back from a 3 games to 0 hole?

It should be a cakewalk from being lumped up as a young Sox fan, beginning in 1967. I reluctantly have no comment -just an upload on this Series. Damn, in these past few years up here, humility has become a tough virtue.

what a series...it seems wrong...but as a lifelong yankees fan...i find myself rooting for the red sox? I was in hudson, wi last night and we all shared a bowl of new england clam chowder for good luck for the sox...and it worked!!!!

While this may be a bigger meltdown in the making than the 04' yanks...it will never feel that way to me...that one really stung badly!

That was a gutty win after the 7-0 collapse and the tough game 6 loss.

When they brought in the rookie lefthander Davis Price (five career major league apperances) to close the game, I thought about the "Nebraska farmboy" the Pirates brought in to face Roy Hobbs in "The Natural." The kid came through big time! Unfortunately, I was rooting for the Sox ...

Maybe now we'll finally have a World Series decided by a fly ball that hits a catwalk. Sigh.

Pretty impressive that the Rays won 97 games without Price. He's gonna be a beast.

While obviously very disappointed this morning, I can honestly say the better team won the series. Congrats to the Tampa Bay Rays on a job well done and good luck with the Series. They really deserved to win. If anything, it will be nice to see some local kids playing.

It will be interesting to see what all of this does for Tampa's gametime attendance next year. Hopefully it will spark an interest in baseball down there where attendance is usually quite bleak. I just wish they would lose those damn cowbells.

Anyway, congrats again.

Greg
