Default 1978 NBC News Clip of NYC ASCCA Show

Finally got my hands on this and wanted to share.

What you're looking at is a 1978 NBC News clip featuring one of the early NYC shows hosted by my father along with Bob and Paul Gallagher. My dad is 38 years old here which is bizarre to me since I'll be turning 38 myself this December.

My father is asked about his Wagner at the end and in May of 1978 he would have been in possession of the Jumbo Wagner. Disappointingly, the Wagner shown in the clip is a Dover reprint. I was hoping there'd be more insight provided as to the circumstances etc. surrounding the find of the Jumbo but sadly no. Still a fun watch :

I loved the piece, Andrew! Thanks ever so much for loading it up for us to enjoy. Congratulations on acquiring the clip; what a precious time capsule!

Your father is precisely as I remember him, though when I was with him in Troy, that was six years earlier. He certainly presented himself well, and represented the hobby with dignity and enthusiasm.

When the camera panned the array of baseball cards, I quickly spotted a Stahl-Meyer Franks Hank Bauer! I'm sorry to say I haven't emailed your Dad yet on the Stahl-Meyer Franks cards & promotion. I hope he will still answer me.

Thanks again, Andrew. What a delight. Take care. Best regards, Brian Powell

Thank you for posting. I still have many of the mailers/postcards for those shows. I was in Philadelphia, but my parents did take me to one of them in 1976.

So, you were a bun in the oven when that show took place. I think it is so cool for you to have TV footage of your father prior to your birth.

Exactly! At the time of the news clip I would have been six months away from being born lol. In-fact I was born exactly 9 days after the November show advertised on that card.

Thanks Andrew. Understood. I'm glad for you that at least you still have your dad. I lost mine when I was only 13. However, again, to be positive, I loved the clip from the NBC story. My father himself was a motion picture camerman for NBC News.

Best regards, bro. ---Brian Powell

Wow the Gallagher's, I remember those guys. Interesting to see the tough 1972 reprints of the the 53 Topps cards (I spied a Jackie and a Paige) in the composite. The Wagner was clearly a repro as was the CJ next to to I'd say. Great piece though!

Great video. I have looked for the PM Magazine TV show clip of Larry Fritsch before. I think it came out around 1981. It was one of the things that hooked me on collection. Anyone know where to find that?
