Default Rabbit Maranville good or bad?

So this one has been hanging around at a local indoor flea market for quite some time... I witnessed the dealer take it out of an older frame... The cut is toned around the area where the piece was removed and appears to be on a shinier album page like paper that has been glued to something thicker. What bothers me is that the borders of each stroke or character are bold while the inside is faded... I have two questions:
1-is the signature Walters? Or his cousin bugs?
2-is this type of fading typical? Is there anything that can prevent it?
Thanks!
Dave

Old steel tip fountain pens leave that type of trail so what you are describing that bothers you is a good thing. I believe it is authentic despite the fading issues. That was also Maranville's most often used salutation as well "Yours in Sports".

Signature appears a little labored, but I think it is good too
