Default Boggles my mind

I was browsing through the Goodwin auction and saw the PSA 10 T206 Pastorious(we had a thread about this card where most agreed it was too off center to justify its grade) bidding is over 17,000. The three PSA 9's are all just over 4,000. Now obviously there not going to close at these prices, but if this is any indication a psa 10 t206 is valued at many multiples more then a PSA 9? I find this astounding because if you were to place a T206 graded a 10 and another graded a 9 next to eachother without the slabs I bet we'd have about a 50% chance of guessing which is which. Also consider most dont feel this 10 even deserves it grade, but still people will pay multiples over what a mint 9 will sell for. This is the epitome of buying the holder and not the card. I understand the whole registry competition but this just seems ridiculous to me.

Amen.... I am a slab guy, but this is absurd. The "need" to own a PSA 10 T206 card...no matter what condition it is in....is unfathomable to me.

once again, i'll have to jump in here because i used to own this 10...

the value i placed on a "10" was 3-4 times that of a 9...

everyone seems to be forgetting that out of 75,000 T206 cards that PSA has slabbed, they have only put 13 of those cards in a "10" holder (whereas there are 250+ "9's"). it is my understanding that PSA was not as strict on back centering in their early days, when this card was slabbed...but every other characteristic, color, corners, etc, were so strong that it warranted it to be placed in such a holder.

Michael- I think it's a very nice 9, not a 10.

The whole concept of Gem Mint is ridiculous in my opinion.
