Default 1921 Exhibits Ruth

Peculiar to me that this card hasn't exploded in price commensurate with some other Ruth early cards. I guess because an Exhibits issue. Never owned one, but have seen a few nice ones at shows and they are really striking in hand.

Over the last few years this card has gone from a $1000 card in vg-ex to 3-4K...this is significant IMO.

Should it be worth more???? Yes!!!! IT's early, unique and a beautiful pose!!

This card has already started to spike. I remember passing on one that was probably g-vg at one of the Baltimore nationals for $600. I'm not sure you could get a beater now for under $1k.

Default 21 EX Babe

They're not going up because I have 2 of them. Once I sell they'll take off.

Would be nice if the '21 Exhibits Ruth goes up in price. Don't know what I was thinking back in 2009 but I spent an essload of money for this sucker.

Thanks, Tony. Long time no see. Am hoping to make it to Chicago this summer if my old body is up to it. You going?

Jeremy: I just had a look at VCP. Heritage had a six that went off at $16K last summer. That is comforting. I'm not in this for the money but like anyone else I don't like losing the stuff.

I ignored ruth strips, W issues and exhibits and canadian cards...for too long and now theyre big bucks.

No more strips/exhibits for a few hundo just 3 years ago. So I feel fortunate to have recently snared this beauty at a price I enjoyed!!!

Beautiful cards guys...and yes since I bought this card will not increase in value until after I sell it!!!!

This is one of my favorite ruth poses...the detail of the uniform and glove...and he's so young and svelt!!!!!

I had a pretty PSA 5 that I traded away at last year’s National. I have been looking for a suitable replacement ever since. Great card, great pose.

The Ruth exhibits in general have done well I think... I wish I had bought them when it was very affordable. I remember this portrait version going pretty cheap at post card shows... I'm happy to own this one as is... Ricky Y

In my opinion, the Ruth Exhibits are his most attractive cards. They are also far more rare than the Goudeys and American Caramel, and pre-date them by several years. Not to mention, they are actual photos, rather than artists renderings. I think in the end it comes down to collectors being hesitant to accept oversized cards. This has changed a great deal over the past few years, starting with the explosion of the 25 Gehrig. But these cards have a lot of room to grow as the hobby slowly accepts oversized cards.

Noticed over the years that this card seems prone to a lot of browning in the upper corners. A non starter for me if its bad. The examples above are beautiful.

3 cards I regret not buy 5 years ago in great condition when they were much more affordable:

1921 Ruth Exhibits

1932 Gehrig US Caramel

Jackie Bond Bread portrait

Me too though that US Caramel wasn't one on my list....the other 2 would have been nice to pick up a few years ago. I really like the '21 Exhibit.

I'd add the Gehrig Exhibit rookie to that list.

The 1921 got some love in REA: SGC 1.5 $2,700. Last year you could get a PSA 3 for the price

The Bond Robinson in a PSA 1 went for $1,440.

Both quite reasonable, if you think about them in context. An early Ruth and a RC of Jackie Robinson.
