Default T204 Ramlys...do you collect them?

Posted By: Dave F

Curious how many here actively collect the Ramlys? Or, does anyone like to pickup one just here or there?

If so...what way are you going about it? Hofer's? a particular grade on average?

I collect the T204 Square frames but have only been able to get 1. The Square frame Dineen i picked up last year is the only one i could find and just love the look of them.

I have the $ to get more but no one wants to let go of them....

In the past two months I have seen more T204's available for sale then the previous 2 years of tracking prices, combined. Don't know if it means there have been some discoveries or just that some people are giving up collecting them and recirculating them back into the hobby.

Bobby,
Was wondering that myself with the current flood of lowgrades on ebay.

I guess hardly anybody tries to go after this set in high grade?

Look at the deal this guy got from a Canadian seller who listed in the wrong category.

I collect just the Cincinnati Reds from all sets and currently have 5 of the 10 from the T204 set. I had several others about 12 years ago and sold them for something I think I needed at the time (like gas!). I lost out on the Square Frame Bancroft back in January to JC (but it is not like I am still going on about it or anything).

I just have one to fill the gap for that type/issue. Picked it up from Leon a couple years back (thanks):

Wow...so no high grade T204 collectors on board here? Thats kind of amazing. Seems we have high grade collectors with just about any other series. Anybody have a thought as to why that is? Do they just seem too expensive in high grade? And, what would be considered "high grade" for the Ramlys....6?

Scott Brockelman and I do have high grade sets as Ramly sets go. My complete set of 127 cards averages about 6.6 and has taken 20 years to assemble. I have gone through over 600 cards to put the set together. I did get 2 upgrades at the national Blair 6 and Brown 7. Scott also has a complete set. I still have 11 5's that I am trying to get to 6, but over half of those cards have no known 6's.

I need two commons to complete the set. I would say average condition in mid 4's. It has been a five year journey for me.

Peter's set is the #1 and mine the #2, another board member has the #3 "Mastro" set that he bought intact. At one time I believe Peter had about 5 sets, I had nearly 3 complete sets, between the 2 of us we have handled a large percentage of the high grade cards.

Here's a link to the sets on the PSA registry. I also have 3/4 of a second set in high grade as well.

Well, Peter, Scott, Bob..since you guys have probably seen more of these than just about anybody would be curious as to your thoughts on what the Sweeney posted a few above may grade? Measures correctly, no wrinkles anywhere but there is a small water stain on the front...to the right of the player.

Should be a 6, but PSA might give it a 7 on the right day. SGC would be much tougher on the card due to the stain.

Four(4) of the seven (7) catchers I collect are in the set: Bresnahan, Kleinow, Street, and Thomas. Thanks to boardmembers Scott B. for the Bresnahan and Bob C. for the Kleinow. Two of my ebay pickups years back.

Wow Scott...I would have thought the water stain would have lowered it more than that...even with PSA. It is interesting though to hear you say SGC would lower it more severely. I would assume down to the 4-5 range.

Its funny....on this board a card series gets brought up, next thing you know...bam...theres ebay!

The T204 group that just showed up on eBay is almost certainly some (or all) of the ones that Ted saw being graded at the National. Too many TTT's to be a coincidence. Oops, I just outed a bunch of cards anyone would find by searching on "t204" or "Ramly" .

Just to be a killjoy, the backs on these cards are really toned. They normally don't look like that. However, it's a great group.

Bill
