Default OT: Is this Cal Hubbard?

Posted By: John S

Cal Hubbard played football for Centre College in 1923 and 1924 then transfered to Geneva College in 1925 following his coach Bo McMillin. He was not eligble to play in '25 due to the transfer but earned All-American honors in 1926 before beginning his pro career. I believe that the player in the Geneva sweatsuit in the middle of the back row is Hubbard. I also feel that this is a 1925 photo as Hubbard (if it is him), although pictured with the team, is not in uniform (at least a unifom shirt). The picture is a little fuzzy but the jawline complete with minor chin-cleft, forehead, and ears match fairly well. There was no information with or on the photo.

I realize that this would be more appropriately placed on the football board; but Cal is also a member of the Baseball HOF and figured that I would get more responses on this side.

...the picture on the right is from the early 30's

C'mon guys and gals, express your opinions. Do you think the guy in the sweatshirt is Hubbard?

I think it's him. The hairline and cleft in his chin are the same. No comment on ears.

I have a 1920 Chillicothe Business College postcard with Hubbard pictured on it. He is seated 2nd from right in the middle row.

1920 Chillicothe Postcard -Cal Hubbard 2nd from Right Middle Row

I believe your photo also pictures Hubbard.

edited to add: Most biographies of Hubbard never mention Chillicothe, but he did indeed play there. Here is a link that gives that information.
