Default Look what I picked up today....

Hello all,

I thought I'd share a picture of a card I picked up today. It was part of about 2 dozen other '59 and '60 Bell Brand Rams cards. Pretty cool huh?

I don't know much about the 1959 and 1960 Bell Brand cards (except they are super cool LOL). I have one or two in my collection.

Looking at the Standard Catalog the 1959 set is numbered to #40, and the 1960 set is numbered to #39.

No #43 is listed, no Tom Frankhauser is listed?

The pictured card certainly looks legit to me, what is the story and why isn't it cataloged?

Larry

Wow, very cool pickup! Have you compared it to the other 1959 Bell Brand Rams you have? Do you believe it is an uncatalogued card or from some related promotion?

Here is a picture of a description from Beckett (see image).

I also looked at the PSA Pop report and none have ever been submitted. Looks like it is a very rare card.

Very interesting stuff. Thanks for posting this. Was not aware that there were additional SP cards in this set.

I wonder who is/was card #42?

Quick update for anyone who is interested. I sent the card in to PSA for grading, and I just got the grade back today. It came back as a PSA 2 GD. According to the pop report, it appears to be the first one ever graded by PSA. Pretty cool stuff.

Also just now seeing this.

Congrats!

If Jeff P is unfamiliar with this card, it's RARE!

Please post a scan or photo when you get it back from PSA.

No problem at all. See pictures below. Does anyone have any clue on what this could sell for? I'm planning on selling it, but I have no idea what to list it for. Suggestions?

Would love to get opinions...

I was offered $7,000 for the card. Any opinions on whether or not this is a good offer? I've sold a ton of vintage sports cards in my time, but never a card like this. I'm really flying blind on this. Let me know what you all think. Thanks so much!

The issue is pretty much everyone is flying blind on this one. You're gonna have to go with your gut. My gut says $7K for a post-war card with a PSA 2 grade sounds like something to seriously consider. Name me another post-war, vintage football card of a nobody player with a grade of 2 that is even close to commanding that kind of price.

Maybe bump it to $10K and see if you can nudge them up a bit. Just my two cents.

Great Card! I don't know about value but I've got all but 2 from this set and gave up on Jobko and Franckhauser years ago. Here's a bad scan of Jobko but I'd never seen the Franckhauser until your post.

That is awesome; let us know how it ends up.

FWIW, remember the old adage on investing: bulls and bears make money, pigs get slaughtered. You got a lucky strike on a very obscure rarity. If the money is meaningful, turn it over and get something you would enjoy more.

I wish I had clicked on this thread previously. I love obscure, impossible to find cards like the one listed in this thread. This was a great thread to read.

I agree with the previous posts that $7,000 for a common player from 1959 seems like a pretty strong offer. I guess the possibility does exist for the original poster to cost himself some money by not sending it to auction, but IMO an obscure card like this could easily fall well short of $7,000 at auction. I would take the offer in a heartbeat if I was looking to sell.

$8200? Good for you! Great time to sell. The Rams are back in LA and are 6-0.
