Assemble on all-time great team. The hitch is the player must be great, but so does his card. For example Walter Johnson is my choice for all time greatest starting pitcher, but for this team I have to give the position to Matty for his 1914 CJ Card.

1b 1925 Exhibits Gehrig
2b T206 Magee
SS T206 Wagner
3b N172 Anson in uniform
Of Cobb/Cobb Back
Of 1914 Boston Garter Joe Jackson
Of M101-5 Ruth
C Four Base Hits Kelly
P 1914 Cracker Jack Mathewson

I assume you mean value and not an aesthetically pleasing list? After all, Magee was good but hard to put in front of Collins, Hornsby or Lajoie.

Hornsby tops my all time great second base list, Williams is my third outfielder. I had in mind a team of cards by position based equally on player merit and card desirability.

This card all-time team, should in some degree differ from an all-time team based solely on player merit. Magee doesn't make my top 5 second basemen, but his T206 card is one of the greatest cards of all-time. He was a good player, but his card is in a different league against any Hornsby et al issues.

I would go with the 1933 Goudey Nap Lajoie at 2B.

NOW you have a GREAT CARD and a GREAT second baseman!!!!!!!

Beats the Magee combination hands down.

1933/34 Lajoie is a choice I considered at 2B, but I couldn't get over putting a tribute card in my all-time line-up.

All opinions are welcomed.

1b LouGehrig 1933 DeLong
He is larger than life as he towers over the ballpark.

2b Nap LaJoie 1934 Goudey
A great marketing trick by the Goudey Gum Co.

3b Cap Anson 1888 (or 1889) N162 Goodwin Champs
The artist depicts Cap in the "Sunset" of his career.

SS Hans Wagner T206 (it goes without saying).

OF Ty Cobb T206 (Green)
Great portrait in his 1st major issued card (150 Series).

OF Joe Jackson 1914 Cracker Jack
Toss-up between this one and his T210 card.

OF Babe Ruth 1933 Goudey (#53)
Great pose....very tough card in Ex/Mt condition.

C Roy Campanella 1949 Bowman
Had to include a card from my favorite Post-WW2 set.

P Walter Johnson T206 (portrait)
This picture of a young Walt cannot be beat.

Utility Player....Mike "King" Kelly N162 Goodwin
The stormy clouds behind him speaks of his personality.
