Where are they coming from?

In eons of years collecting them, I have never seen any and suddenly 30 appear. They were sold as a lot on ebay and the winning bidder has sold them 5 or 6 at a time each week on ebay (smart strategy), selling them individually. I imagine he kept a few but released the rest. I would be curious where that initial seller got them from.

I won one of them the other day.
Definitely a rough hand cut on mine.

I assume they're all that way, but havn't seen any others up close.

The Doyle I won has been sent to PSA. According to the seller, he sent one of the cards he won in and it was graded. Don't know if that means graded "authentic" or assigned a numerical grade nor which company of the Big 3 (I assume) graded it.
Great edges on the Doyle, I was very pleased. I am expecting a couple more in any day which look to have rougher cuts but nice cards.

While working for United Airlines, from 1980 thru 1996, I use to fly to all the major shows in the country.
From NYC, it was nothing for me to do a show in LA, and a Lee show in San Francisco during one weekend.
Same for Chicago/StL/Cleveland/Dallas weekends etc.
The T207's were never one of my favorite sets, but damn, you would figure that I would have heard about, or seen a T207 blank back.

I wonder if Lew Lipset, Bill Heitman, or anyone that's done some digging and research into the set, can shed some light on the topic?

I have seen a few blank backs over the years. I do not remember if they were hand cut or not.

I have also seen quite a few T206 blank backs. They were hand cut.

I have also seen a couple of T205 blank backs that were not hand cut. Go figure.

Bob, Frank Ward won the lot of 30 and he is not the one selling the singles now. The same seller that sold him that lot is the one putting the singles out. I think once he saw what he got for the lot, he decided it was better to sell indvidually. Dan.

saw the first group. If I remember correctly he said he had about 63-65 or so....then I was a tad less interested. Still neat cards and I got one. It looks like they just didn't have the printing put on the back of a sheet before they got cut. There are some straight edged ( I hear ) ones so that might rule out that they were ALL handcut.....who knows..

It was probably about 15 to 20 years ago at one of the old Willow Grove shows. I believe that the dealer's name was Wayne Miller who had them.

I really did not pay much attention as I viewed them as a printing freak.

There are blank backs in just about all of the old tobacco sets thanks to the lack of good quality control in the printing process.

of every blank-backed t207 he had, perhaps you could print them out and make a puzzle. It's possible, since no one else has seen any of these in a long time, that the results of the hand-cut sheet were all in his hands.

He must be keeping the HOFers from the group as there haven't been any McGraws, Benders, Bresnahans, Hoopers, Speakers, McKechnies, Careys etc., all of which have the common Recruit backs, making it on to ebay. Yet...

It seems like they're being listed roughly in order of increasing condition. Maybe what the seller is actually doing is releasing them in order of increasing value, letting their legend grow a bit before auctioning off any hall-of-famers or ex-mt+ commons.

Oh they're real. The thing that makes me cringe is I have a sneaky feeling someone had a sheet of T207s with no printing on the back and cut it up to make more profit selling it card by card. That would be a damn shame. Until I see a T207 with a blank back surface which isn't in the Recruit back series, I'll keep thinking this.
