"The Card" - Honus Wagner T206

Just got done reading "The Card" by Michael O'Keeffe and Teri Thompson. I thought it was a great book. It was the first book I've read in I don't know how long. Anyway it was pretty eye-opening about the Wagner T206 and the sports/memorabilia industry itself. If you haven't read I suggest. Any comments about the book? Anyone agree or disagree about anything in it???

Great Book though I feel the Cobb/Edwards B.S. dilutes all the true and good information in the book. My 4 year old could tell you that card is no good.

I read the book and enjoyed it very much. I searched out every book about our hobby and have just about read them all.
The quote in the book saying Net54 is the place to be for vintage card news is what led me here and this site has been the best part of the hobby for me!
I sent my copy to one of our members that was quoted in it.
Controversy makes good reading, too. The Card or any T-206 Wagner is a card I'll never own and that's ok. There are plenty of cards I own and have owned that make this hobby fun for me.

I really enjoyed The Card. I went on a hobby book reading craze last year. The only one I didn't enjoy was Card Sharks. The information was interesting but it read like a poorly written text book and had the ugliest cover in the history of books.

If the writers are Net54 members--I apologize.

Hyperbole aside, Mint Condition was my favorite book of the last year. Really enjoyed the detailed stories the author pulled from many collectors and folks within in the industry.

Written by Pete Williams is really a book of two parts. The 1st part is a large extent one of the better hobby histories you will read; the 2nd part details some of Upper Deck's issues early in their history.

I believe you can find copies of this book cheaply at Amazon and if so, just for the 1st half, it is worth reading.

Note: I used to talk to Pete all the time when he was at USA Today Baseball Weekly and I was at Beckett so I have some personal prejudice towards his work

I liked better the later book by Dave Jamieson (too lazy to look up title or spelling). Lots of entertaining info on famous dealer and such.

I agree the 'The Card' chapter on the infamous Wagner (I don't mean the PSA one-- haha) left a bad taint on the whole book for me. I thought that chapter was a major misstep. It was like a chapter entertaining someone's argument that the moon is made cheese. Not only is it obvious to people with half a brain the moon ain't made of cheese but what's even the point of even entertaining the argument.

P.s., maybe that card is made of cheese. I don't know.

This is a great book. The author and my son-in-law are close friends. I talked with him about the book and he really did his research!
Card Sharks was another great one. pete did a great job. I never cared for Upper Deck anyway, so I may love the book too much!
