Default Greetings and Question

Hello. New to the forum and back to collecting after a lengthy absence. I loved the hobby (addiction) in the 80's but found it difficult to keep pace in the 90's and didn't have the $ while in college. Switched my focus to the 1958 Topps baseball set and did quite well picking up cards at local/regional shows including the National in Cleveland ('95?). Took to the Internet in 1999 and bought 3-4 cards a year via eBay and TeleTrade. Now, I follow MLB on Instagram and began seeing posts about player autographs and then baseball cards... I've got the bug again.

I'm a little over half way on my '58 set and am wondering, where do you buy your vintage cards? I prefer raw but am not opposed to graded. Obviously eBay is still an option. I reached out to a person I follow on IG and they suggested Blowout, Facebook and IG. I'm not much for Facebook and most cards posted on IG are recent pulls. I'm seeing some amazing cards that you are buying and am wondering...where?

Thanks so much!!

Hey, welcome to the forum. I buy cards from anywhere I can find them. I spend a lot of time searching on the net for the best deals I can find, but mostly e-bay, auction houses, and the B/S/T here on this site. I don't collect much past the 1920's, so I can't give you much on the sets you collect, but I know guys here know. Have fun, and happy collecting.

+1 . I think those places for pre-war are mainly the places for post war too. Depending on location, local shows can have some post war too....

And welcome to the forum, Indy Tim. Happy collecting!!

The local/regional card show and National are still absolutely relevant today too. Especially if your short term goal is working on that 1958 set. Nothing like holding that card in hand before you purchase.

Card shows, ebay, Net 54 BST, Dave & Adams (for newer), Baseball Card Exchange (vintage unopened). I think all my purchases the past couple of years have been these sources.

Welcome back and happy hunting.

Welcome! I loved TeleTrade too, bought way to much back then. A need list on the BST is a great place to continue. Good luck with your '58 set, one of my favorites ever.

Local card shows-- there's a good one here in the Seattle area-- and perhaps trying to find some local collectors. But eBay is the age old source.

As there are a lot of fakes and reprints on ebay, it's good to gather a list of reliable sellers.

Lastly but not leastly, the B/S/T section here on Net54. You can put out want lists.

People complain about the internet, but if you know what you're doing it's a great way to get cards. Opened up the market to the world.

P.s. I think collecting ungraded cards is great.
