Default New member question on submitting cards to SGC

First off hello I am new to the site. Been reading through posts and am glad a site like this exists. I collected in the 80's when I was a kid and I have Tupperware full of nonsense. But over the past year I've been collecting vintage cards and enjoying getting back into the hobby. I've been buying a combination of graded and raw cards mostly through eBay. I recently was at a show with SGC onsite and submitted 11 cards for grading. Mostly low end Mantles that I'm hoping return a 40/3 grade. Plus I'd like to test how I'm doing by judging these cards through a couple scans online. Hopefully no fakes or trimmed cards!

So my question is can I track the progress? The show deal was 10 or more cards $10 each 10 business days. I am barely past that point but it would be nice to see progress. I signed up for an account after the fact but my cards obviously don't show up. I emailed them but no response. Waiting a little longer is fine but having no updates is unnerving. Any thoughts or experience for this newbie?

Thanks!
Steve

Very rarely will a grading company message you before the grades pop. I've had it happen with PSA when I forgot to sign the credit card form. I've also heard of other people who got notified to upgrade their service level because the card's grade made it worth much more than the return insurance they paid for.

My answer is "yes and no". I have 10 cards at SGC now. There is a Check Submission menu option on their website. Right now it shows me all 10 cards received but the grades are empty. At some point soon, I'll get an email saying the cards are being mailed back to me. At that time, I can check submission again and the grades (all of them) will be listed. At no point have I been able to see a few cards graded while the others are in progress.

But at least I can see that the cards are underway.

Welcome Steve to the board.

More concerning to me is that you said that you emailed them and have received no response. I have always found SGC great at responding to my emails by the next day. However, if you emailed them on Friday they may not read your email until Monday.

If you don't hear from by Tuesday I would give them a phone call. Their number is on the site.

Best regards,

Joe

Thanks for the welcome and the replies. Joe you are probably right. I think I sent the email early Friday morning.

I guess what I'm still curious about is when I submitted my cards I did so in person and on a handwritten form. I did not have an account with them prior to this transaction. I have since setup the online account to be able to track it. But how would my in person order link to my online account creation? I am assuming it wouldn't. So hopefully they respond to my email tomorrow or I guess I'll just come home one day next week to find my shipment.

Because it's your first time submitting to SGC you don't have a customer number. SGC will assign you a customer number when they receive your first submission. When you get your graded cards back from SGC there will be a customer number on your invoice, but you don't have to wait for that. You can give them a quick call and they will link the SGC account you created with your newly assigned customer number. You will then be able to log in and see your recent submission. I hope this helps.

This is a tremendous help. I'll give them a call tomorrow!

Thank you

On their website, you can sign up and check status. Also they are really good about being helpful with a phone call.

Thanks for all the help. I spoke to Tyler today at SGC. He merged the account I created with the submission. It shows up now. The only bummer is it's not shipped yet / hence no grades. But at least I can go online and check rather than be disappointed getting home and not having them arrive yet. Right now they are only 1 business day late.
