Default T205 Minor League Subset

I was fortunate recently to purchase a nice matching pair of T205 Minor League catchers, Forrest "Hick" Cady and Lew "Sport" McAllister. Both were members of the Newark team.

This subset is really beautiful with their more ornate designs.

Let's see your scans of the rest of the T205 Minor League set!

Default T205 Minor Leaguer's sub-set

Here you go Patrick......all 12

In my opinion, this design is more aesthetically pleasing than the somewhat "busy"design of the 196 Major Leaguers in the T205 set.

These 12 cards were printed at the tail-end of the T205 press runs. My theory is....these 12 cards were printed on an exclusive sheet
of their own.

Default T205 Minor League Subset

Hi Ted,

Thanks for the response.

I agree with you that they most likely were printed on exclusive sheets. My understanding is that they are only to be found with a Hassan or with a Polar Bear back as well.

Looking at the entire subset, the Hanford cards jumps out in that it is the only one with a red name plate where all others have the yellow name plate. Kind of strange.

Default Hey Patrick

The back bios of 8 of these 12 cards suggest to us that indeed these cards were printed and issued some time in late 1911.
Furthermore, the HASSAN (Factory #649) adv. on these 12 cards is the Tobacco brand of the 1912 issue of the T202 cards.

For examples......in Jack Dunn's bio...."In 1911, in 13 games to July 15, his batting average was .355".
And, your Forrest Cady card's bio....."Since joining Newark his services for 1912 have been secured by the Boston Red Sox".

My theory is that the same artist at American Lithographic (ALC) who designed the T80 cards, also designed the T205 Minor
League (ML) cards. However, I cannot reconcile the timeline. We have ALC ledger info that dates the T80 issue to Feb 1911.
While we are saying the 12 ML cards were issued in late 1911.

Perhaps, some of our resident T205 experts on this forum will chime in here and provide us some insight.

........... T206 (circa Feb. 1911) ................................. T80 (circa Feb. 1911)

I have a theory that the SP's in the set were replaced by the ML cards. I will see if I can dig it up.

Years ago I posted how I thought that the minor league cards replaced certain single print t205s later in the print run. I posted about it but cannot find the post now...here is what I have from my notes though...

The following tougher single prints are missing the Hassan 649 and Polar Bear backs.

Chase Left Ear
Dahlen
Donahue
Grant
Joss
Karger
Kleinow
Raymond
Suggs
Turner
Wagner
Wilhelm (a combination of both which is why they are so damn rare)

That is 12 cards that seem to match the missing back matrix of the polar bear/hassan 649.

I feel that these were replaced late in the print run.
