I'm looking on my phone, but it looks like pitcher Paul Derringer to me. I've seen a few photos where he wore his cap in this distinctive way of crushing the top front in like this guy.

I think you're right. I bought this photo as Mel Allen, but I don't think that is him in the left. I'll settle for derringer.

Another question? I just looked up his stats... am I missing something in regards to him not being in the HOF? 579 games? 223 wins on a crappy reds team? Sub 3.5 era?

He’s no where close to being a hall of famer.

If Derringer played for the Yankees or Cards post 1934, he'd be a HoFer no problem. Instead, he had 3 great years with a superb Red team and then he was past his prime. Too bad, great earned run average, tough attitude and the guy could pitch 11 inning each time he walked on the field. If he was as lucky as Lefty Gomez as to be with the Yankees, it would be a different story.
