Might as well include my Dots Miller display piece here even though some of those cards show him on another team, damn you grading holders for not having a way to write over the word Cardinals!

All but two are Horner photos as you see, I never caught the two different Pittsburg/h spellings. I suppose they could have been made at a later date, but I doubt it, they pretty much are the core of the '09 team , why would you commemorate them years later? Some of the backs have marks from contents it kind of looks like. I suppose it's also possible they were cut apart from an ad of some type, but if they did they further cut them down as none of the sides match up. Also you will see that two have a hint of red/orange border to them as well.

These were originally sold in an Auction back east circa 2002 or so. I have asked many hobby vets about them and each has never seen anything like them.
I wonder if these are something from Tip Top bread? Cut from a box or an advertisement?

Wow! Thanks for starting this thead. The is some great stuff here. I just started my T206 Pirates master set last year. That should keep me occupied for some time. Here are my current favorite '09 cards though.

Default Triple Play

Completed my run of D322 Tip Top Bread catchers yesterday.

Picked up the Gibson in 2001...O'Connor in 2012...and Simon in 2018.

Project only took 17 years!

One of the most visually appealing prewar sets.

thanks, Richard - but it's actually two different postcards (not a front / back view) of the card at right.

the scorecard w/ the Pirate was not mailed - the lineup card was mailed and has an October 10, 1909 postal cancel

Matt: since Game 1 was played October 8, 1909 and the card was mailed October 10, 1909, the card manufacturer was pretty freakin' efficient !

here's a scan of the back side of the card

Any new Pirate pickups?

Picked up this one last month.

Attachment 286066

Nice Hermes Pin Marty. And a good catcher to boot.

This was my most recent.

Default Let's see those 1909 Pirates

Love this thread. Great stuff top to bottom.

I'm trying to get autographs of the starting 9. Only need Dots Miller, Bill Abstein, and Chief Wilson.

Dots Miller is a very tough autograph from what I've been told. Makes sense with how long ago he died. This is as close as I will get most likely. The nickname is probably better than having the full name anyway
