Default A chance to get a card you really like but. .

How do you guys feel about cards that have a really nice (say ex) front but have a flaw on the reverse (like a small mark or small piece of tape) that brings the technical grade down to a 2 and this ex looking card that is technically a 2 could be had for about the price of a 3?

I would add that it is a nicer looking specimen than what I could usually get, thanks to the little issue on the reverse. Monetarily, it would be the most I have paid for a single card .

As long as the back is not too distracting for you I'd say go for it. Those types of cards can be true gems. Good luck!

I would say as long as the front is the focus, I would go for it. These are my favorite type of cards. Now if it is a card where the back is a bigger deal (T206 back, etc), then may be a different story. High eye appeal and lower grade is fine with me all day!

It wouldn't bother me at all, but you're the one that has to live with it. As long as you like it, it doesn't matter what anybody else thinks.

I collect by back in the T206 arena. So the back is very important to me. Creases fine, but no paper loss or tape.

That is MY take. Yours is what matters to you.

My not even be a T206 that you are talking about.

I will pay 3 money for a 2 that looks like a 4. All day. For my collection, it’s about how the card hits my eye, not how the flip hits my eye; so if I am getting grade X eye appeal for less than grade X would normally cost me, good stuff.

Doesn't bother me at all. Especially when on innocuous spots like on this card (skinned on the four back corners) where it doesn't interfere with the checklist, or on an ad-back card (as opposed to interfering with stats or bios) like Packs' awesome green Cobb. Obviously, this wouldn't apply to back collectors.

going out on a limb here & predicting that because of the soaring prices of some cards (like each of those pictured above), this particular kind of purchase will turn out to be both gratifying and an excellent investment.
I AM a back collector and really wanted a t213-1 for my run.
tho not my ideal choice, I was forced to settle for this one-

This eBay acquisition just arrived in today's mail. The front is amazing and the back has a story to tell.

Me too; I love those kinds of finds. Especially on a blank back or where the missing paper is on an area with no art or writing. I was really pleased with this one:

Back stains don't bother me. I usually go for eye appeal and don't care for creases in bad places or missing pieces of corners. The Arrelanes has a back stain and I could care less about it. Plus it came from an originally collected collection (the grandson inherited it)....
