Default O/T Rare Boxing Card Sells for $27,600

Posted By: Jimmy

The 1948 Leaf Rocky Graziano

What an unbelievable card, I followed this auction and was not sure it would sell. In the last hour it really gained interest. Boxing card sales in general have been slow this past year after having a great two years. The rare card is unknown to many collectors unless you start talking about it. We have had a few discussions on this board about the 1948 Leaf set and this card. I think we know how rare this card really is, even before the auction ended.

I placed this on the Boxing Card section as well

Jimmy

Way too easy Adam - my sophomore Latin book is in the garage.

"We gladly feast on those who would subdue us"

Now then, for extra credit, what 60's TV family took it for their own?

That's the same card that sold for $17,903 in 2001.

This was a fantastic buy. The card is so rare it just never comes up for sale. I was shocked when I saw it on the bay. Congrats to the buyer of this fine card!

I swear that is the same card I had in an SCD auction in the late 80's. The card I had was off center and also had a small crease. Damn, I wish I would have known back then how rare this card really is. I got the card in Streator, Il from a guy that grew up in the Chicago area. I wonder if the card was only released in the Chicago area then pulled? I got this card with other Leaf boxing cards and quite a nice collection of sets from 53 to 69. I would give the card a 2 or 3 grade and not a 4. Anyway, I believe the final bid on my card was under 2k which at the time shocked the hell out of me...

Just for kicks.. I wish I was one of the founders of Google and could put a full page ad in the Chicago Tribune looking for the Rocky card. Honestly, if the ad ran for 3 months straight in all sections of the paper do you think I'd find one? Its obvious, only a few were produced and without a doubt were distibuted in the Chicago area and then pulled. God I love this hobby...so many neat stories.

Peter C.,
This thread is about a PSA 4 Graziano. What card are you talking about?

Wes,

I was just congratulating Rocky for his purchase, I have a few of the '48 Leaf boxing cards in about good condition. Does anybody know who the present owner of the '48 Graziano in PSA 4?

Peter C.

What are you looking at>? The new owner IS Rocky (who is a board member and friend). Maybe you need to go back to sleep and wake up again? best regards

Sorry Guys,

Is there a PSA 7 Graziano being sold on E-Bay right now? I must have gotten the 2 cards confused.

I was looking at Ted's link above and I thought I was looking at a PSA 7 card.

Peter c.
