Those look great to me! Lately I've devoted time and funds to my John Hannah player collection, but me thinks I need to pick up a Venz or 2 here soon.

Thanks, I got a couple Braves cards in the B/S/T I'm selling. They aren't special players or anything, but if you need either of them they're there.

I got a couple '59s in the cue that I need. The seller doesn't want to sell outside of eBay cause he's new to eBay and he's from Venezuela. Just waiting for him to list them and they're mine. Once I get them, I'll only need 6 more to complete my run of VZ Braves base cards.

This is for all the VZ collectors out there. There's a guy on ebay selling two different '59s of Don McMahon. One he says is "carton clear" and the other "carton dark". I'm not sure what the difference is. Here's the links if anyone can shed light on this...

I have never heard that nomenclature used, but I am assuming he is just referring to the fact that one is a gray back and one is a cream back variation. My understanding--and some of the experts on here please correct me if I am wrong--is that the cards sold in Caracas were printed on gray stock and those sold outside of Caracas are printed on cream card stock. Cream backs seemed to be more difficult to find.

That's what I was thinking, but I wanted to make sure before I considered bidding on the item. If there's anyone who can second the opinion about it being a cream back I'd be very much appreciative.

Were there only back variations on the 59's, or in other Venz sets as well?

That's my understanding, although I don't know about anything produced after 1968.

Ryan:

looked at the examples shown in the links, and my first thought was "Google translator-esque", kinda like when jokes/phrases don't always translate (read: are not as funny/clear) when or if they're translated from one language to another, and that prompted me to do an English/Spanish internet search (Google IS my BFF - sometimes - and yes, I probably DO need to get a life), but I happened to have a few moments to kill, so the timing was good...

anyway, here's what I came up with:

"carton", Spanish English Dictionary (Granada University, Spain), 7.7
(n.) = cardboard ; pasteboard ; paperboard.

cool stuff either way, and something I more than likely would've never noticed (or even looked for) when going thru a stack of 59's until now, although I'm certain I will in the future - I learn something new every day, and that's never a bad thing

DS
