Default new Storefront (Belltown Vintage Cards): Contest

Two winners - choice of one of the photos described below, or this Susini card featuring Red Murray: Susini Red Murray

Guess the winner, total points and score of the AFC championship game:

1st tie-breaker: Total points
2nd tie-breaker: Point differential;e.g-Denver beats N.E. 35-31 and you guess 38-28, point differential=6. If you guessed N.E. beats Denver 35-31, point differential=0, but you wouldn't have gotten to this tie-breaker, because you guessed the wrong teams
3rd tie-breaker: This is weird, but - point differential between your birthday (day/month) and the final game-score, where 'day' represents the winner.

1st prize is your choice of either of the two 11 x 14 silver gel prints from 'the Conlon Collection', shown below, or the Susini card (link above). 2nd prize chooses from whichever prizes the 1st prize winner doesn't take. The photos listed originally at $149 (Mathewson) and $99 (Baker) when I bought them just after 'the Conlon Collection' store opened. I took them out of their wrappers once to loupe, then put them away, so they are mint. I saw the 'Rhoades Throwing' sold for $88 in a 2011 Mears auction, so they are considered pretty nice by some collectors.

Please post your entries in this thread, or the similar one in the main forum - only one entry, but you can edit it up until game-time next weekend.

I have one correction to offer--the photo labeled "Johnson, Walter - Reds uniform" that indicates that he had just become manager of the Reds, should instead indicate that he had just become manager of the Indians. He never managed the Reds.

I look forward to seeing what else you add to your site.

Thanks, I will correct that. I've had that photo for quite a while, and had 'Reds' in my head the entire time

Thanks, also to Lance for the Knabe info, and Jay for the Meteors cabinet correction. I'm sure there are plenty of more mistakes to be found.

I believe there is also a photo that refers to Lefty O'Doul as a HOFer, which I believe to be incorrect.

GREAT store Scott, good luck with it!

The photo prints section contains some excellent photos at fair prices. And I don't lie.

For the record, I know Scott but have no stake of any kind in his venture and he has not asked me to post anything about his site. Just thought I'd offer my opinion as a so-called photo expert, in particular as my folks on Net54 are unfamiliar with the ins and outs of photographs.

Thanks for all the kind words. Graig, if you want hi-res images of any of the photos, just let me know.

I've finally come up with a 'grand opening' giveaway contest, and rather than being a thread hog, I'm going to use this thread to run it (thus, the thread title change). Even though my store has 'Cards' in the title, I'm giving away photos, for no good reason other than that I have a couple that I'm not doing anything with, or selling.

Guess the winner, total points and score of the AFC championship game:
  1. Guess winning team and score.
  2. 1st tie-breaker: Total points
  3. 2nd tie-breaker: Point differential;e.g-Denver beats N.E. 35-31 and you guess 38-28, point differential=6. If you guessed N.E. beats Denver 35-31, point differential=0, but you wouldn't have gotten to this tie-breaker, because you guessed the wrong teams
  4. 3rd tie-breaker: This is weird, but - point differential between your birthday (day/month) and the final game-score, where 'day' represents the winner.

1st prize is your choice of the two 11 x 14 silver gel prints from 'the Conlon Collection', shown below. 2nd prize is whichever one the 1st prize winner doesn't take. These listed originally at $149 (Mathewson) and $99 (Baker) when I bought them just after 'the Conlon Collection' store opened. I took them out of their wrappers once to loupe, then put them away, so they are mint. I saw the 'Rhoades Throwing' sold for $88 in a 2011 Mears auction, so they are considered pretty nice by some collectors. I have the 'Rhoades Throwing' and will get it framed at some point, along with some of the other Conlon action shots that are being sold on 'the Conlon Collection' website.

Scott <=== not above plugging others, so to speak.

Please post your entries in this thread - only one entry, but you can edit it up until game-time next weekend. Obviously, it behooves you to wait until the teams are determined this weekend, but...

Wow - 3 contestants and 2 prizes. I doubt any contest featured this good of odds of winning! Perhaps I should add the contest description to the main forum section as well?

Modified to add a card to choose from.

I'll say Broncos over Patriots, 30-25. There will be no need to revise my answer, as anything else I pull out of the air would also be a guess. The odds of winning just dropped substantially though

P.S. Even if I don't win, I'd be interested to hear what the loupe examination revealed. I'm curious, but cheap, and haven't ponied up the Benjamin+ to satisfy my curiosity on these.

It really didn't reveal anything - the old (1900-30) silver gels typically showed shiny emulsion in the dark areas, but these new ones obviously don't. A few of my old Conlon prints are of very similar look and feel to these new ones. I am really curious about the modern platinum prints. I have a few from the early 1900's (no baseball), and it's a fabulous print type.

*edited to add publications and extend coupon date

Net54 members get a 10% discount on tobacco cards and some publications, through Tuesday, by using the code NET54HAWKS (it is for tobacco cards, BaseBall Magazine, Reach Guides and Spalding Guides).

Only mentioning this because I've had a couple of Net54 purchases where the forum member didn't use the code.

(Posted on card side as well)

There is also the posts on the main forum side to consider. I'll work it out here in the coffee shop, then post on both sides.

Thanks for everyone who participated, and also for the business of those of you who have been checking out the site, and purchasing stuff.

Note: I am listing some of the items from my site, on ebay as well. Naturally they are priced higher on ebay, to cover my fees. I prefer that people buy from my website, but I can't control that - ebay gets higher visibility.

Ben's amazing prediction not-withstanding, among the Net54 mortals,
Chris (baseball tourist) and Keith (kjjavic) tied for 1st, with 24-17 guesses.

Barry took third with 40 total points.

Once I get Chris and Keith's b'days for the final tiebreaker (unless they were born in the same mont/day, they can pick prizes, and Barry will get the leftovers.

Thanks everyone, for participating. I have been having a blast with the storefront and hope to have everything I own loaded by the end of this month.
