Default Help with T206 -- Real or Reprint

Posted By: ChiSoxFan

I'm trying to help a friend with a T206. Below are the scans of the card. Currently, I don't have the "tools" to tell if a T206 is real or a reprint. I'm about ready to submit some cards to SGC, and he was wanting to send this one in, IF it's real.

remembering George Berkeley's philosophical argument, I should say
that it is authentic, rather than Real.

Barry,
Good call on the hesitancy to use the word, "real". The philosophical implications of ascent to the absolute existence of phenomena can be devastating. Nagarjuna would agree with Berkeley, but for different reasons.

Where has all the serious philosophical consideration gone?

JimB

P.S. Card looks authentic to me. Quan, the general feel just looks right. In addition, the dot matrix lithography on the front, in addition to color, tone, etc. all just look right.

This card is real. There are certain printing flaws in the T206 set that you do not see in reprints. Things like dots in the ink and color bleeding over the borders. Also one thing I do is smell the card many T206 cards have a musty smell.

JimB,
many thanks for the understanding and corroboration.
in determining what is real, it is always helpful to me to
remember Nikhilananda's beautiful summary of the Buddha's story:
as though his circumstances were not precarious enough, two mice,
one black and one white, began to gnaw at the vine that he was
clutching for his very life. It was then that he spied a strawberry growing
on the side of the cliff, ripe and luscious, and just within his reach.
He stretched forth his hand, plucked the fruit, put it in his mouth, and
exclaimed with delight, "Ah! How perfectly delicious."

best,
Barry

All:

Nice discussion going on here. Can't remember how many times the people on Antiques Roadshow have announced that something is "real," when they mean it's genuine, that it is what it purports to be. But ...

"The philosophical implications of ascent...?" I am because I climb? Surely, Mr. B, you must mean "assent."

Even philosophers have to spell words correctly.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. After pressing the "Post" button, I thought that "Authentic" would have been than "Real". Of course the card is "Real", if it wasn't I would not have been able to make a scan of it.
