Default Jim Brown cards

I need just 37 football cards to complete my 1958-1963 Topps run. That's the good news. The bad news is I need all of Jim Browns 6 regular Topps cards (including his 1958 RC). Well I managed to knock off two of them this week via ebay, and thought I would share. The 1959 Topps cost me $5.24 delivered and the 1960 Topps cost me $10 delivered. Please don't laugh

If you like 'em and you're happy, thats all that matters. I have cards uglier than that in my collection.

Who's laughing? My 1958:

I'd rather own most of the run of his cards for the same price as a high grade version.

I'm not laughing at that '58 RC Adam. Maybe drooling since it's the last card I need to complete my set

Thumbs up

Even though that Brown rookie has some rough corners, the centering is actually better than the majority of them that you see for offered for sale!

All Jim Brown cards are spectacular regardless of the grade! I miss the "old days" when collecting was about having an example of the card instead of having it at a specific grade with a low pop

Love it, Larry.

Thanks all. I had the card about 30 years ago but it was long gone [probably sold] until I purchased a shoebox collection of a few thousand cards and Topps posters from the original collector who'd amassed it as a kid. He found it in his parents' attic and was really happy to get some cash for what he thought of as junk. The card shown here was one of the pulls from that lot that I decided to keep rather than resell. The cards were pretty rough so I didn't spend a lot of time going through them and conducting an inventory, I just made a cash offer that was accepted. Great thing was I didn't even know it was in there when I bought the whole collection, so I was pretty pleased when I got the box home and had the time to go through it in detail. There was also a 1959 but that one I already had so I offered it for sale. The other fun with the lot was that there were a few totally pristine, never even unfolded, posters, including this one:

Just noticed a 1958 Topps Jim Brown numerically graded and holdered in a PSA holder with the qualifier of "ST" and all I can find is that the trivia part on the back has been lightly rubbed, revealing the cartoon answer to the trivia question. Has anyone else seen this card receive a "ST" qualifier for this?

1962 Topps #28 purchased via ebay arrived $34.85 delivered. A fair price I think, not a real bargain. Still need that rookie card, and also the 1961 and 1963 Topps.

1963 #14 SP ebay $16.57 delivered, not to bad a deal. I just won his 1961 card as well, and will post a picture after it arrives.
Only the rookie card remains!

Picked up 1961 Topps #71 for $18 shipped. Fair price I suppose not a bargain but am glad to knock this one off my want list. Only the 1958 RC remains, might be something to look for during this years National Convention. I was going to say something about the "MAKE-A-PHOTO" puzzle on the back being "skewed", but when I look at the rest of my 1961s, almost all of them are like this.

Default Jim Brown in the CFL....

What Jim Brown collection would be complete without his Canadian Football League cards? (I know, he didn't play in the CFL). But Topps seemed to think not only he but the entire Browns team did. Here are the team cards of the "Saskatchewan Roughriders" after Topps relocated the Browns to Regina...........scans of '61 and '62 to follow. Topps liked moving Cleveland to Canada so much they even used the same picture in '63!

Jeff I am glad you said that, I am happy for those collectors that really are grade oriented but I love just filling holes!

I do upgrade but only if a card pops up. I would say my cards are VG plus but that is just the grade that appeals to me.

As we always say when playing golf, just enjoy, work is tough this stuff is fun!

1959 Bazooka...nice! Definitely one I'd like to add to my collection some day.

A few more of mine:

This 1962 Post is actually nicer than the scan. I don't know why it showed up so oddly:

1963 Stancraft:

1960s Sport Pix:

Some team issues:

Thanks for posting photos of Jimmy's Browns' team issue photos! I hadn't realized that the first two were the same images that were used on the '60 and '61 Kahn's.

Just arrived 1958 Topps Jimmy Brown RC! Finished my '58 set cost me $61, and you might be thinking that's a pretty fair price. But you haven't seen the back..

No problem Larry. Injuries are very common in the NFL.

It's criminal but you can get the '59-63 JB's for under $100 tops.
