Default Ty Cobb struck out by Bert Gallia - - need scans of Gallia

Posted By: Don Olson

If anyone has a card of Bert Gallia (circa 1912-1920) and can make a high-resolution scan, either to be posted here or sent to me directly, it would be greatly appreciated.

For the next issue of the St Marys University school newspaper, I will be writing an article about a legendary baseball game played during spring training in San Antonio almost exactly 100 years ago.

Melvin Allys Gallia, then a young undergraduate at St Louis College (former name of St Marys University), had the distinction of striking out Ty Cobb.

Gallia later went on to a major league career with the Washington Senators (1912-1917), the St Louis Browns (1918-1920), and the Philadelphia Phillies (1920) - - on cards from that era he will be known by his nickname, Bert Gallia.

Illustrations of Gallia would be helpful for that article, and a credit line can be included crediting whoever supplies an image (or I can keep the credit line anonymous, if that is preferred).

It seems he has two cards. Card #76 on this site: http://www.blacksoxfan.com/strip.php is one of them.

Oddly enough, I have a dual-signed piece of Cobb and Gallia. It was signed in 1920, when Gallia was with the Browns. Cobb signed one side, Gallia the other. Not sure if it's of any use to you, but here are scans:
