Default Birth Year Sets

I got this idea from Mike D.'s 1976 project. How many on this forum actually completed a set of cards from their birth year? It was always a dream of mine to complete the 1963 Topps set as that is my year. I finished this task on February 20, 2004, when in over a year of looking, I finally added card 537 to the collection. On November 16, 2013, I completed the 1963 Fleer set for good measure.

Congrats on completing both sets!!

I have wanted to complete this project and like you, i would need to complete the '63 Topps set but the Rose rookie always stops me in my tracks. I have never been all that fond of the 63 set but have thought hard about completing the Fleer set. It's got some great players in the set and is considerably less daunting a task as it has a small number of cards.

Default 1959 Topps for me

I really enjoy my 1959 Topps birth year set. I'm always upgrading it, which keeps me engaged. I've thought about collecting the 1959 Topps FB and HKY sets too.

The 1959 Topps set is the first vintage set I ever completed. A very colorful and awesome set. I never thought to go for the 1963 Topps football or hockey sets, I guess I am just baseball! And I have no desire to go for the 1963 Jello cards. But with the 1963 topps set, I try to pick up everything I can including error cards, variations, etc...

My birth year is 1977. Unfortunately I don’t really care for the ‘77 Topps set - I think ‘76 is much better. Back in the early 2000’s I did complete an EX-MT to NM ‘77 set, just because of this idea and I thought it was something I should do. But I couldn’t get into it, and I eventually ebay’d off the stars and I think traded the commons for other things.

Depending on the month you were born, you could go with the year you were initially conceived. Just a thought.

I'm a 1966 guy and completed that set with my dad probably 30 years ago. Days before the internet, I still remember searching out Billy Williams, Gaylord Perry, Horace Clarke and the Twins TC at local card shops and shows.

1943 was a lean year for baseball card issues. The only cards I have from 1943 are these two (the Speece card on top is from 1943 - the one on the bottom is from 1944):
