I have never sold an autograph in my life. I have been collecting since I was a kid. My dad worked for a major sporting goods company in the 70' and the 80's and pro athletes bought their golf clubs there at wholesale prices. It was always cool when dad came home and had an autograph for me and my brother. I still have them.

None of my friends or family collects and if they acquire an autograph many times they will just give it to me since they know I collect. I don't think the guy even looked in the box of stuff he recently gave me with the Jeter ball, how he got it is another long story. One of the other balls turned out to be a stamped ball.

Most of my graphs have been TTM successes with the exception of a large collection I acquired (another long story).

Thanks for your opinions, maybe I should have done a brief introduction of myself when I recently signed up. I plan to be active here and havemore to post!

If he was a seller, I'm glad he was trying to do his due diligence to see if it was authentic.

Jay you are correct. He is only asking for a free opinion. Nothing more. What did you think of the ball?

Nick, pleasure to know you. I am just curious when a new person comes on here. Is it just for free info so if passes you can then send it on to have it authenticated. It just seems that this is happening often on this site. To quote Leon who runs this site.

I agree.. Kudo's to our members who consistently help and give of their time. The only way to stay ahead of the curve is to be vigilant.

And I think it is important to always question everything. People coming on this and other forums, with very posts asking questions about what to look for, is this good or bad etc... always get the courtesy of being vetted, overtly or covertly. I guess I am just a suspicious person.

Shelly,

I frequent many of the card/memorabilia sites and when I found this one I liked the autograph section for the various posts and opinions. The other sites are great for TTM addresses, success rates, etc. When I saw other posts asking opinions on autographs I signed up and jumped right in.

I have no interest in authentification of autographs or selling any items in my collection. My thoughts on authentification are that it is just someone's opinion just like the replies I received from my post. My personal opinion on the Jeter ball was that it is authentic. I base this on the other items in the box when I received it. Besides the Jeter ball there was a Gaylord Perry ball, the stamped 66 Mets ball, a Jackie Robinson commerative issue ball, and a baseball card signed by one of the ladies of baseball ("A League of Our Own" type). The stuff looked like it belonged to a casual collector/fan, not a forger. That being said, yes it is possible this person purchased a fake item, who knows? It did have a certificate issued by some agency but what does that really mean? I would be curious to see if an item I personally witnessed being signed would pass an authentification test or pass for real by members of the forum.

I hope to become active on this forum, the members seem very knowledgable and willing to help.

Thanks,

Nick
