Hey everyone-

I have been collecting signed Gold Hall of Fame Plaque postcards for some time and have done a little research on the set and figured it would be a great resource (and way to show off my collection) to other collectors!

You can view it HERE

Please let me know if my facts are wrong on anything! Thanks for the look!
Stefan

Very interesting read, I too have collected these for years. I have a complete signed set of the yellow variety, and have hundreds of duplicates for sale. I gave up a few years ago on the b&w variety, too many fakes around.

You can curse out a dead man named Ron Dross for that.

I would imagine he was the individual that bought up all the unsigned pristine cards from the Hall of Fame many years ago.

Wouldn't Walt Alston be a difficult, but possible plaque?

Yup, missed him on my checklist- was only alive about 14 months after induction though.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll change it this evening!

He was the scum who bought up the B&W unsigned plaks from a Cooperstown hobby shop, not the actual HOF, and then created forgeries and ripped off a lot of people including some better known dealers. I myself bought a large quantity of them, sight unseen, from a well known promoter/dealer but returned them as soon as I got them.

Got to agree with you on Puckett. I treated myself when he did an appearance near me and got everything I wanted in one shot - HOF postcard, Perez-Steele and two set cards. A few years later I was extremely happy that I made what seemed like an impulsive decision at the time.

I also found it interesting that there was next to nobody in his line. At the time I was in line, there was one guy getting FDC's signed (about 25 of them!), then me, and that was it! I think people thought his $75 price tag was too steep.

I think Puckett was a perfect storm due to a number of reasons. Historically, Kirby had a been a great in-person and TTM signer for his fans. Not too long after his induction, a scathing article was written by Frank DeFord in SI about the 'real' Kirby Puckett. Kirby went into pseudo-hiding and the Twins distanced themselves from Kirby after the article was published. He stopped showing up at Spring Training and doing public appearances for the Twins. He was still officially on the payroll, but that was about it. So I think most collectors weren't used to paying such high prices for Kirby, since he was so fan friendly before the article. I remember thinking that $75 was very high, and I would just get him another time in-person or TTM. Obviously, that never happened! Kirby did do a signing with the Iowa Cubs minor league team not too long before his death, and they were charging $20 or $25 per auto. I tried to find someone to hook me up, but never did. They also wouldn't take mail orders!

I think with today's players, this is not as much an issue, as we all know they don't sign TTM or give away autographs for free. And if they do, then they aren't show autographs, they are usually some chicken scratch initials. So most of us HOF plaque collectors just pony up the $$ and get them done sooner than later.

Oh man, this is awesome! I have been looking for a site like this for ages. I am an avid collector of these. Have been taking a break lately (reason being I have almost all the cheap ones acquired ) but hope to start up again soon.

Thanks so much for this!

Smarnzi the gold plaques were initially issued in 1965 (late 1965). The Dexter Press (of color plaques) were issued from 1977 to 1979.

I am pretty certain the Dexter Press were only printed in 1978 and 1979. Curteichcolor gold hof plaques were still printed in 1977 and you can tell the difference because of the print size as compared to the 1976 plaques. Apparently Dexter Press printed Dazzy Vance cards in both 1978 and 1979 because there is different numbering on the back of each card, making it the only variant that I have seen and possibly the only card that was printed in both years. Why he would have been the only one I have no idea.

I actually think you are right and have changed it (again! lol).

I am slowly starting to add pricing estimates (with about 1/2 of those available the first year of Gold Issues being posted). I plan on adding more over the next few weeks.

Any Comments, revisions, input are WELCOMED!

I noticed some of the HOF postcards are gold and some are yellow. What is the difference. I have postcards up to 2001 and notice this. Without going to Cooperstown can I obtain the postcards from 2002 to current year. I did not see them on the website.
