Rhett, that's perfect hitting form. Stiff, locked out legs, butt out. It's just textbook.

Default #174 and another Name On Top

Thanks to Lee for two great cards. The Pattee makes #174 and the Jordan I had been spying for months. These fit nicely into my collections. I really appreciate them... they were worth the wait (thanks USPS).

Picked these up last night. Elberfeld/Washington was always tough for me, in decent condition, so I splurged. Surprised to win these others as well:

Thanks, Pete. Yeah, and I knew PR-FR was all I'd ever be able to afford for that card.

My son's planning to go to Medical school. Maybe I should join him

Default Awesome Kleinow (Boston) T206

Scott,

Congrats on your T206 pickups. That is about as nice as I have ever seen for the Red Kleinow T206.

Thanks, guys. It might be because I paid too much

Here's how bad my Elberfeld Washington's were when previously collecting t206's, and I was always looking for a decent one. I finally found the one with all the back damage, but it cost a pretty penny. Perhaps nice ones are easier to find now (I don't own any of these anymore - got rid of all cards but one, 7 years ago):

Added Matty at the Shriners show in Boston earlier this month. As a side note, the show was awesome, and I was really glad to be able to attend. (I happened to be up in Boston for another function, so I dropped by on Saturday morning.)

That horizontal Matty pose is one of his greatest cards. Beautiful.

Just got this scanned - Thanks to everyone for scanner advice!!!

I went with the Epson V30

Thanks. I also love both the white and dark cap T206, as well as what I just think of as "the extended version" in the T3.

Your scans look really nice, too.

1922 (based on front font) Schmalzer.

Sorry, boxing, but I thought some exhibit guys would enjoy the "just Post Card back" oddity.

Cuban League - Cienfuegos Stadium Postcard. Most likely Cienfuegos v. Almendares circa 1920. Really neat interior scene of a rarely photographed stadium. At least rarely seen by me

Default Not prewar or cards

My mother gave me an early 40th birthday present; 1953 and 1954 St. Louis Cardinals team signed balls. My uncle (her sister's husband) Pete Castiglione was a utility infielder for the team. He had given the balls to my grandmother, who gave them to my mother, who has given them to me and I will give them to my baseball loving son.

Very cool, David, I look forward to seeing it. I have considered collecting Speaker in the past, but never made the leap. To read about him remains on my to-do list...

Scott,
Nice T206 pickups.

Steve,
Nice Crofts Matty! That is a tough one to find with good registration, but when you do (as you did) it is a beautiful card!

Not as close as you may think. Still have 70-75 to go. I've been doing a lot of buying lately, but many of them are upgrades. I've also been trying to buy nicer grades rather than beaters, which adds to the cost and slows down the rate at which I check off cards from the list. Thanks for asking.

Thanks to Dan for the heads up when he saw the Camnitz. I kept looking and found the seller had a total of three for sale at the same time. Contacted him, and it turned out he was a board member also, who read about my quest and we were able to make a deal that I think made everyone happy. Thanks Mike.

Sometimes cards, such as these, are too rare for their own good.

What Leon said +1. Scarce type cards really do it for me. I have never understood the overwhelming fascination with the T206 set. But, "to each his own" is one of the things that makes this a great hobby, as many others have said. Leon, thanks again for these cards!

Dan - Thanks for your kind comments!

Brian V.H. - I am envious of your nice Middy Bread pickup! When I learned that Legendary was auctioning the 30 Middys that recently surfaced, I figured that I could finally get one for my type-card collection at a reasonable price, only to discover that Legendary was auctioning them as one lot!
