Default FYI....T206 BROAD LEAF 460 confirmed list

This is the 5th (part B) of 15 threads that will provide the most up to date listing of the confirmed cards with the various T206 backs.

This thread is an integral part of this comprehensive thread started in 2010...... " Consolidated access to the 15 - T206 T-brand (front/back) surveys ".
http://www.net54baseball.com/showthr...=132611&page=6

NOTE....BROAD LEAF 460 cards are ONLY in the 350/460 series. These 35 subjects (of 63 subjects) in this series were theoretically printed with the BROAD LEAF 460 backs.

Group A
.

As of today, these 27 subjects have been confirmed with the BROAD LEAF 460 back......

Baker
M. Brown (Chicago)
Cobb (red portrait)........................super-print
Davis (A's)
Doolan (bat)
Dougherty (arm in air)
Downey (bat)
Elberfeld (Washington-fielding)
Evers (bat-yellow sky)...................super-print
Griffith (bat)
Johnson (pitching)
Joss (pitching)
Kleinow (Boston)
Konetchy (glove low)
Mathewson (dark cap)....................super-print
McIntyre (Brooklyn & Chicago)
Murphy (bat)
O'Leary (hands on knees)
Reulbach (no glove)
Rucker (throwing)
Seymour (throwing)
Snodgrass (catching)
Stahl (glove)
Street (catching)
Sweeney (fielding)
Willis (throwing)
Cy Young (glove)

There are 8 subjects from this group that have yet to be discovered. I expect these T206's will eventually be found with BROAD LEAF 460 backs......

Ames (hands above head)
Bender (no trees)
Chance (portrait-yellow).................super-print
Chase (blue).................................super-print
Chase (dark cap)...........................super-print
Donlin (bat)
Larry Doyle (bat)
Magee (bat)

If you have (or know of) any of these 8 guys with BROAD LEAF 460 backs, please show and/or tell us of them.

Thanks,

TED Z

Ted, sincere thanks for all your work and effort putting together these checklists. I have only been a member for a short while, but have gotten a ton out of your lists (new and old threads, as well as articles you have penned) and it's an incredible help that you do this. You are a true asset to the t206 society!

Meanwhile, anyone have BL HOFer they want to part with? (I understand that's a question better left for BST so please private message or email).

Thanks again Ted

Ted, how many of each BL460 do you think there are? and do you see any players that seem more common than the rest?

Ted, thank you for clarifying; I should have looked closer at the list. Your contributions to the knowledgebase, especially on T206 are much appreciated!

Jamie, I remember we had messaged about that card a while back. Glad you were able to acquire it!

Interesting stuff, Thanks.

Just curious though, the cards I have say dist N.Y. or VA which I assume were factories in New York and Virginia. Were rare backs such as the Broad Leaf mainly distributed in a certain area of the country?

T206 rare backs are found through out the country. This is primarily due to people moving from their original residences with their collections.
So nowadays, it is difficult to pinpoint the original source of most rare backs.

However, we are certain that DRUM cards were distributed in the St Louis area.

Factory #30 (NY) cards were mainly distributed in New York and the New England states.

Factory #25 (VA) cards were mainly distributed in states throughout the South and Pennsylvania.

There was a large find of red HINDU cards from Texas in recent years (although this is not necessarily indicative of their original distribution).

Factory #3 (LA) cards COUPON (T213-2 & T213-3) and Factory #8 (LA) cards VICTORY (T214) were distributed in packs of COUPON cigarettes
manufactured in Louisiana.
The 1910 COUPON (T213-1) cards were distributed in cartons containing 100's of cigarettes.

Hey Jamie, great to hear from you.

Your photo shows an SGC and a PSA graded Seymour's. The Pop Report data I listed in Post #9 pertains only to SGC graded cards. And, I assumed that the one for Seymour
in the SGC data accounts for your card.....since an SGC 30 is listed.

Ted, I wanted to add this to the thread, for reference. You were 100% correct about the existence of a Broad Leaf 460 Chase with the blue background-- I just had one graded this month.
I have very much appreciated your posts along with the extraordinary amount of information you have collected and shared regarding the T206 set. Thanks so much for helping further the knowledge base for these wonderful cards!

EDIT: I've been asked about the backstory. I was into baseball and baseball cards in the 1980's. A collection of T206, T205, and T210 were owned by a family member and passed on to me. At that time we didn't have information readily available and the price guides were based on condition only. I had noticed the difference in the backs (brand of cigarette, series, factory) and wanted to find out more. The lack of information meant my mom drove us an hour to meet with a card dealer who specialized in pre-war cards. As Ted has posted previously, there was basically no interest in back variations in that time period. And, unless it was a big card (Cobb, Young, Magie, etc) the collectors like Ted were seeking sharp corners and no stains. Also, you couldn't bring up population reports, or surveys, to determine rarity with a few clicks and keystrokes. We spent around an hour with the dealer and I can't remember exactly what he offered, but they valued my 300+ cards low enough that my teenage brain just decided to take them home and enjoy them. I am thanking myself every night.

EDIT#2: The card was sold before posting. I don't want to divulge too much, I'm letting the buyer make the decision to go public with ownership. I had a feeling this would attract some attention so I was hesitant to post on the thread, and if it had been anyone but Ted Z I would have stayed silent. With as much work as he's done, his theory deserved the validation!

Sorry about that. I don't have imgur, photobucket, etc... and the site would only let me upload one picture directly. Here's the back

UncleStu

I really appreciate your kind words. I have been searching for a BROAD LEAF 460 Chase ever since 1984.

I presented a thread (posted April 2010), which hypothesized that in later press runs American Lithographic divided the 350/460 series into
two groups. Printing the BL 460 & red HINDU cards (35) separate from AB 460 & UZIT cards (28).These 2 groups are mutually-exclusive with
respect to their backs. Refer to.... 350/460 mutually-exclusive cards ....post #14.

This theory has stood the test of time by predicting a number of T206 subjects that were eventually discovered with these rare 460-type backs.

Hi Sonny

I copied and pasted an old list which did not include Magee (bat). My T206 REFERENCE thread includes Magee.

Anyhow, thanks for pointing out my omission. It has been corrected.
